ROLL-PAPER HOLDER ND CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,598, dated August 6, 18789.

My invention relates to an improvement in devices for holding and cutting wrapping-paper and the like; and my invention consists in features of novelty, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, l .represents the base; 2, end pieces' or standards; and 3 the paper-roll, mounted in the standards, as usual. 4 represents the knife,which rests upon the paper-roll and which moves downward by gravity as the size of the roll decreases. It is held in place by vertical rods 5, secured thereto and extending upward through a top piece 6, secured to the Aupper ends of the standards 2. The top piece is preferably provided with sleeves 7, through which the rods 5 pass, and the rods are provided on their upper ends with heads 8, to limit Athe downward movement of the knifefthe heads allowing the knife to move downward.sufficiently to follow the roll until all the paper is removed, but preventing the knife from falling entirelyv Serial No. 287,437. I claim as my inventionl. The combination of the paper-roll, support for the roll, a knife fitting on the roll, rods extending upwardly from the knife, and a cross-piece through which the rods pass, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the paper-roll, support for the roll, a knife fitting on the roll, rods extending upwardly from the knife, crosspiece through which the rods pass, and sleeves on the cross-piece, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of the roll, support for the roll, knife resting on the roll, rods extending upwardly from the knife, cross piece through which the rods pass, sleeves secured to the cross-piece, and heads on the upper ends of the rods, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination of the paper-roll, support for the roll, knife resting on the roll, rods extending upwardly from the knife, crosspiece through which the rods pass, and sleeves on the cross-piece, the sleeves being slightly inclined to give an inclination to the knife, substantially as set forth.
