Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD D. 'BUNOKE, OF JERSEY CITY, NEIV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO \VIL- LIAM w. FOUCHE, JR.
, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
'SlZlNG COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 407,510, dated. July 23, 1889.
Application filed March 26, 1889.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD D. BUNCKE, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Sizing Compound, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvementin sizing compounds, and has for its object to provide a sizing especially adapted for preparing an oiled surface to receive lithographic printing. For instance, such a surface as is usually produced upon window-shade cloths.
The invention consists in the following ingredients mixed in the proportions substantially as hereinafter stated.
In preparing the composition one part of beeswax and two parts of thin lithographic varnish-such as is known to the trade by the title 00are mixed together and boiled until thoroughly commingled. After the mixture is cold I add thereto two parts of copal varnish and one part of thick lithographic varnish-such as is known to the trade as No. 5. After these ingredients Serial N0--304:,861| (N0 specimens.)
have been well mixed with the boiled beeswax and thin lithographic varnish the resultant product is reduced with the 00 or thin lithographic varnish to the consistency required by the printers test. In operation this solution, thus thinned, is mixed with the tint of the first printing or the base color, the said color being so manipulated in printing as to form 'a bed for all the other colors to be afterward produced upon the surface to constitute a completed design. If only one color is used in the design, the sizing is first placed upon the surface to be printed, and the color is printed after.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A sizing compound consisting of beeswax, copal varnish, and thin and thick lithographic varnish, similar to that described in the trade as 00 and No. 5, in the proportions substantially as specified.
' RICHARD D. BUNCKE. Witnesses:
