G. O. PRISBIE. HORSE DETAGHER.
No. 407,191. Patented July 16, 1889.
l PETE 5 Hum-Lithographer. Wl-Ihinlofn l C- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE O. FRISBIE, OF CEASES MILLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
HORSE-DETACHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 407,191, dated July 16, 1889. Application filed February 26, 1889. Serial No. 301,214. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that LGEoReE C. FRIsBIE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ceases Mills, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Thill-Couplings, of which the following isa specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My improvement in chill-couplings and devices for detaching horses from vehicles consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Figs. 3 and I are detailed views thereof.
In'constructing my thill-coupling I belt or otherwise secure to the front vehicle-axle A the U-shaped clips a 0, having the apcrtured cars a a, the two sliding rods or armsB B bein g projected through and guided by the apertures in said clips o a, and these arms having each secured to them nuts or collars O to limit the movement thereof. The inner ends of these rods or arms 15 are pivot-ally connected to a lever I), fulcrumed on a nutted bolt E, which bolt may, when preferable, be formed integral with plate 6, which plate is rigidly secured to axle A. Said rods or arms '3 are pivoted at equal distances from the fulcrum of lever l), and said lever is held steadfast and secure in position by elastic clutch or holder I against accidental removal or dislocation, and when thus held the ends of rods or arms 13 are projected through the ears of clips a, which represent ordinary clips or draw-irons, and thus the thill-irons are securely coupled to said clips.
In uncoupling or detaching the thills the elastic holder 1 is retracted and lever D lowered and swung out therefrom.
Holder I as shown in Fig. 3, consists of the apertured right-angular arm c, secured to axle A by nutted clip f, upon which it is fitted, as shown, its inner end being provided with a recess 9, formed in part by flange h and lip 11, which securely hold it steadfast until such time as it may be desired to detach the thills, when its spring-arm 6 may be readily retracted and the lever swung out, as aforesaid.
Thus constructed, I embody in one and the same device an inexpensive and valuable thillcoupling and horse-detacher.
Having thus described my invention, I claim The combination, with the lever for actuating the thill-coupling, of the spring-holder consisting of the spring metal plate 6 having one aperturedright-angular arm 6' clipped to the front axle, the outer free end of said plate having the recess g, formed in part by the flange h at its upper end and the lip i at its lower end, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof IaffiXmysignat-ure in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE C. FRISBIE. lVitnesses:
s'rEwARD SwINeLE, MINER Wv I'Iou'rz.
