SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,994, dated June 25, 1889. Application filed February 28, 1889. Serial No'. $01,516. (No model.)
ToV all whom, it may coli/cern,.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES EsPENsoHIEm;
of Hastings, in the county of Dakota and State of Minnesota, have invented ce1-'tain new and 5 useful Improvements in Conveyers for Flour,
Middlings, dac.; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact descripo machines 'for dressing flour or meal; audit has especia-l reference to the means for conveying or dliveringthe material from, the machine without lsubjeetiiig it to any attrition or rubbing during the. conveyance there- 2 5 of. 1n the ordinary forms of such machines eoiiveyers are employed which force the material out of .the machine by pushing or dragging it vthrough the delivery trunks andl the:
yblades or buckets grind the material some- 3`o^what, rendering it dusty, and as dust is injurious to the product it must be removed,`
this removal involving additional'treatment f 'and vlossof material. To ohviate this difficulty I employ an endless coneaved *carrier- 35- trough, which receives the material and carries it directly from the machine without any attrition thereof, so thalt the iiiost delicate grades of material can be handled without deterioration; and my invention consists in 4o the employmentof an endless concave ilexih'lean'd nou-sectional conveyer-trough, and inl certain' novel details of parts, whereby the trough is coneaved and operated, all of which are hereinafter clearly set forth.
.Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of a boltiiig-reel, purifier,
or similar machine for dressing ground grain,
xhaving. two parallel longitudinal delivery- Y trunks B Il. at bottoni, above which are the 5ochute-boards C and the adjustable shuntboards D D, by'which the material falling upon and from boardsCl maybel directed into veithertrunk l, as usual.`
.shafts in the ends of trunks B, the peripheries of which are concavcd, as shown, or the drums may be provided with peripheral vflanges g at their edges.
H .H designate endless conveyer-belts-one in each-compartment 13g-mounted on drums (i, as -indicated. These belts form the endless-carrier trunks, and are preferably made of canvas, but may be of other flexible inaterial haring a close texture, and are .not scctional, beiiig-rcxiblc enough t0 turn round the drums. The concave peripheries of the drums keep the belt `from slipping laterally therefrom, and at the Sametime perform "a more important office, which is to upturn the edges of the belt, so that itvbecomes concave also, or presents a semi-tubular appearance in cross-section, and its upper portion constitutes'an end-less non-sectional moving trunk or receiver, as is evident. The flanges g would serve to turn up' the sides of thecnd-` less belt also. The endless belts run parallel within compartments vB and below shunt-` boards D, so that material falling -from said boards is received thercoi'i, and when motion is imparted to the belts by belting on pulley e oroi'hcr suitable means the material will be carried out of the machine. `v
I I designate Scrapers orbrushes placed at the lower side of drums G, at the delivery end ofthe machine, and convexed so as to readily brush the belt as it revolves and clear material therefrom.
There long belts are employed, I use V.con-
cavc supporting-rollers J, mounted in suitable bearings at propenintervals apart below the'reeeiving portion of the belt, and acon- Vex pulley K, mounted in,adjustable bearings, may be employed to tighten the carrier; or ithe shaftF might be made adjustable forl this nurnose. Bv the use of these concaved IOO rollers the material is kept from failingvoi into the trunks B, and is carried directly from the machine j ust asv it rstwfalls upon the trunk. Obviously, therefore5there is no grinding of the material, and it iS delivered,
from the machine clean and pure.
What I therefore claim as new is- Zonta-1 shafts at the ends of said trunks 13, the endless flexible belt'H, the supportingrollers J .L'eonvex tightener-pulley K, and brush '1,A all substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix I n'y signature in presence. of two witnesses.
