SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,949, dated october 15, 1889. Application filed February l, 1889.A Serial No. 298,331. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RILEY CROW, of Buffalo, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Oonveyer, of which the followingl is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to conveyors, the object of the invention being to provide a conveyer by means of which heavy materialro such as corn on the cob, grain, ores, or any other material-may be elevated and delivered to a chute; and to the end named the invention consists in the construction and arrangements of parts, all Vas Will be hereinafter fully I5 described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specication, in which similar figures and letters of referzo ence indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved conveyor. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectionai elevation taken on line 25 .fr x of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a similar View of 3 5 neath a crib having a movable trap or iioor,
or otherwise in position to receive the material to be transferred. Near the bottom of the case 10, I mount two transverse shafts and 16, and these shafts carry Wheels or pul- 4o leys, as 17 and 18, the Wheels 17 being near that end of the case which is opposite the end from which the chute extends, while the Wheels 18 ride directly above the point from which the inclined section 11 springs. Tit-h- 45 in the case 10 and near the chute 12 there is a third shaft 19, which carries sprocket wheels 20, and a drivingpulley, the position of which is indicated by dotted lines. Upon the pulley or Wheels and the sprocket-Wheels that are arranged as above described Imount 5o chains 30 and 4:0; and in practice I prefer that these chains be guided by wheels 21, that are carried by a transverse shaft 22, so mounted that the chains will extend at an angle of about forty degrees in passing from 5 5 the wheels 21 to the wheels 17. The chains 30 and 40 are provided with a number of flights 23, the extending edges of Which iiights as they advance bear closely against the iiooring of the case 10. 6c
In connection with the conveyer there is arranged a corn-Sheller 50, and in the conA struction shown in the drawings the belt which drives the shaft 19 is driven from a shaft controlled by the cornsheller mecham 65 ism. To prevent the clogging of the belt and to hold the flights against the bottom of the case, I provide shields and 26, said shields being placed as clearly shown in the draw ings and secured to the side walls of the 7o case'lO. f
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the shafts 15, 16, 19, and 22 carry each a single wheel -or pulley centrally arranged thereon,
around which a single belt a passes, to 75 which belt the iiights 23 are attached at the center, and a single shield entends centrally of the case above the belt, the connection and operation being otherwise the sameA In operation, the material to be delivered 8e to the chute is fed to the case 10 at any convenient point between the carrienbelts When the conveyer is made up of the chains 30 and and the flights carried thereby, and each side of the belt -when a single belt is used, and this belt is started forward in the direction of the arrow shown in connection there with in Fig. l, the material being gathered by the flights and carried forward and upward into the chute, the amount of material 9o delivered to the chute depending upon the speed at which the belt is driven. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described conveyer, consisting in the casing 10, having a discharge-chute 12 and an upwardly-inclined floor-section 11, endless chain passing around said Wheels and wheel 20 at the upper end of said section, under the shields provided with transverse Wheel 18 at the lower end, lower and upper .flights or blades 23, substantially as set forth. 1o Wheels 17 and 22 at the opposite end of the WILLIAM RILEY CROW. casing, the Wheel 22 being in advance of the NVtneSSeS: Wheel 17, a Shield between Wheels 17 18, an
LAFAYETTE W. HICKS, inclined shield between Wheels 18 19, and the R. OCONNOR.
