and, further, in the arrangement of suitable pads or cushions on the saddleaps to relieve thehorses belly fronttlie side pressure ofthe lead.
. In the accompanying drawing, a perspective view of mylnip-roved pack-saddleis shown,
Where A represents-the saddle-tree; B, the I poznruel; C, the cantle; D D, the saddle- 'tlaps5 El E, the saddlegirts, ,and 'N the Mexican girtfrigging, constructed in the usual manner. F -F are bars or. posts attached to the pominel B and cantle 1G, and made of such a length as to bring the suspended load or burden clear of the horses y0n the top of these posts F strapse are fastened, passing through suitable rin gs, n n, or theirequivalent, attached on the top to the center of the pommel B'andcan'tle C,v
bring the weight or strain 'of the burden to the center of the saddle-tree.
Instead of arl ranging these straps a as here described, the strap from which the load is suspended may be attached to the upper end'ot the posts F, and a bracestrap arranged passing from the top of the post to the ring or hook fastened' at the center of the pommel and cantle. v
H H arcguide straps, fastened to the'top of the posts F and'provided at their'lower end-s with hooks fr, to which the straps s on the forvward andafter ends of the bearing-bars Grfv are attached, whereby any swingingunotion of the head is prevented.
w and u" are hooks, attached to the 'sides of the saddle or to the saddle-girts, to which the inward ends of the straps m of the b earing-bars G are attached.
G- G are,the bearing-bars or irames, fast ened together by the straps s am 'w1/,upon whicltthe load or placed. l
M M are pads, secured to the'saddlevtlaps D, to relie've the horsesbelly as much aspos sible from the pressure of the burden.
The inner sides of the. bearing-bar stra) s m are attached, as above described, to the hooks w or u", according'as the weight is. intended to ber carried higher orlouer, while the outer ends of said straps m are supported by the straps a. 'The-weight of the load placed upon the bearingbars G will be carried over the posts F and brought upon the center 0tthe saddle-tree,'w hile the ,pads M will relieve the horses bellyfrom the side pressure.
The straps av and H are, made in two parts, and provided with suitable buckles to lengthen orshorten the. saule, as may be required. Instead of straps,as above'described, ropes or chains may be used, capable of being lengthened or shortened. i i
What I'claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The-herein-described manner of suspending burdens from a pack-saddle., substantiallyas set forth.
2. The arrangement of thev posts F, at-f tached t0 thepcmniel and cantle of a packsaddle, in combinationv with the stra-ps a, to support the load or burden, and the manner ot' bracing said posts so as to bring the strain ot' the Weight near the center ofthe saddle-tree, as described.
