UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMOND CHARLES ROHRER AND ISIDORA JOSEPH, OF \VACO, TEXAS.
WATCH-CASE PEN DANT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,779, dated May 21, 1889.
Application filed September 22, 1888. Serial No. 286,086. (No model.)
T 0 (0M u7t077t it may concern.-
Be it known that we, EDMOND CHARLES Romans and ISIDORA J OSEPH, both residents of \Vaco, in the county of Mcliennan and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Security-Bows and Crown-Holders for \Yatches; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a security-bow and crown-holder for stem-winding watches.
The object is to improve the construction of the bow and crown-holder of stem-winding watches, so that they will beprevented from working loose; furthermore, to produce a bow and crown-holder which may readily be attached to watches having the ordinary holder thereon, and, finally, to produce a stem which shall be simple of construction, and which may be attached to a watch with but a slight expense.
lVith these objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a bow and crownholder, as will be hereinafter fully described in the specification, illustrated in the drawings, and pointed out in the claim.
111 the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is an enlarged vertical view of a pendant having the bow and crownholder secured thereto, showing our peculiar construction. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the pendant, showing two arms on the sides 011 which the bow works. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the stem, showing the peculiar construe tion of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a sleeve designed to fit on the stem, showing openings formed therein to be engaged by screws in the bow; and Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the screws for engaging the said sleeve. Fig. 0 is a view in perspective of the ring B.
Referring to the drawings, A designates t-hependant of the ordinary constructiomwith the exception that it is provided on each side with an outwardly-exten(ling arm, 1, over which fits the inner ends of the bow B.
O designates the crown-stem, provided on its upper end with suitable threads, 2, for engaging the threaded opening in the crown D, and on its lower end with a square opening, which fits on the arbor for operating the spring-barrel. At a point preferably about midway of this stem is secured a collar, 3, the lower end of which is formed into a flange, 4-, upon which rests the sleeve E, the said sleeve fitting within the opening in the pendant and allowing the shoulder of the collar to slide therein. On each side of this sleeve is formed an opening, 5, designed to be engaged by the end of a screw, E, which fits in openings 0 on the lower end of the bow, each side being provided with a similar screw.
It will be seen that although the sleeve remains stationary within the pendant the stem will be allowed to move up and down, so as to operate the case-spring for opening the watch. Now by means of the arm 1 01": the pendant the bow will be held securely in place thereon; but by means of the screws F it is held still more securely, so that it would be a difficult matter to wrench it loose from the pendant by any means. It will thus be seen that by constructing the pendant in the manner described, so that the bow will be held in place by means of the arms instead of simply inserting the ends into openings formed in the pendant as with those of ordinary construction, all danger of the bow working loose upon stein-winding watches will be avoided, and that by having the stem working in a stationary sleeve it will be prevented from having any lateral play, which would be injurious to the winding mechanism of the watch; furthermore, that this pendant and bow may be attached to an ordinary watch without any great expense.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the pendant provided on its sides with arms, of a. stem pro- Vided on its ripper end With threads and on our own We have hereunto aflixed our signa- 1ts lower end with an opening, the collar tures in presence of two Witnesses.
mounted on the stem and provided with a EDMOND CHARLES ROHRER. flange, and a collar located Within the pendant ISI'DORA JOSEPH.
5 and engaging the collar on the stem, snbstan- Witnesses:
tially as specified. MEYER ROAFF,
In testimony that We claim the foregoing as CHARLES RANOIER.
