UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES IV. PIERCE, OF OAK HILL, NEIV YORK.
WARDROBE-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,966, dated May '7, 1889.
Application filed April 16, 1888. Serial No. 270,753. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. PIERCE, of Oak Hill, Greene county, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wardrobe-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a one-hole wardrobe-hook with a brace, constructed as hereinafter described, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a front View.
IVardrobe-hooks a b have been made with a brace, c, heretofore, but always with a lateral extension of the base-plate 01 each side of the arm a and brace c, and with a hole in each extension, making two holes for attaching screws, one of which may be dispensed with, for economy of material and labor, by the contrivance which I have adopted, viz: widening and thickening the base-plate d between the brace c and hook-pron g b, and elongating it a little thereat and making the single screwhole 6 through it, together with the spur f at the back and lower end of the base-plate, to be pressed into the wood for a stay to prevent the turning of the hook on the screw. I make the hole 6 as much higher than the projecting end of prong b as will allow the screw-driver to work freely over said prong to insert the screw.
I cast the hook on a chill core to make the screw-hole, and thus save the cost of drilling and countersinkin g the hole; but may drill the hole, if preferred.
