L. M. OSBORN, OF HAMILTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVED MILL-PICK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. /10,l83. (lated October 1863.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, L. M. OSBORN, ot' Hamilton, in the county ot' Madison and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mill-Picks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. making a part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l is a ,transverse or sectional View 0f the entire pick.' Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the head. Fig. 3 represents the blade; Fig. 4, the spring-plate.

To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My improvement consists in a new and useful mode of supporting the blade or blades in the head ot' a millpick by means of a rigid and a yielding support acting in conjunction, and also in a new and useful mode of supporting the blades at any desired distance from the center of the head by means of notches, or their equivalents, and a suit-ablyformed head on the blade, &c.

K represents the blade, which should be constructed of east-steel.
The handle is shown at Gr. Through said handle is a rod, E. Said rod is provided with a nut, L, and a cap, F.
H represents a tenon, and i t' shoulders resting against the spring k.
Letters D represent a series of notches or depressions suitably formed to receive the head of the blade K.
M M represent lips or sides, between which the spring B is placed.
When the ,above-described parts are arranged in the order shown in Fig. 1, the blades may be held in position by turning the nut L.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A rigid sui-port, with lips or sides, in combination with a yielding support, substantially as described. l
2. A series ot' notches or indentations, substantially as described, or their equivalent, t'or the purpose of holding the blade at any desired distance from the center of the head, as set forth.
