To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known thaUIyFREDRICK C. FEICKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northampton, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in SawSets, of which the following is, a specification.
The object of the present invention in sawsets is to increase the efficiency of such devices, rendering them applicable for setting teeth of saws of various kinds and at varying angles of offset, and to insure an easy working of the adjustable parts and a certain retention thereof in their relative positions when adjusted; and the invention primarily consists in a set-plate having one or more sawteeth engaging slots longitudinally adjustable on ahandle or holder-frame which is provided with one or more gage-abutments.
The invention further consists in devices combined with and in relation to said set-plate and holder and gage-frame, all substantially as and for the purposes hereinafter described. Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,
in which similar characters of reference indi cate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side or face view of the sawset constructed under and in accordance with the present invention and indicated as in its operative position with relation to a sawblade, portions of said saw-set being shown as in central longitudinal section for better illustration. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the setp1ate on the line 0c 00, Fig. 1, other parts of the implement being seen in end view. Fig. 3 is a similar cross-section to Fig. 2, but taken on the Energy, Fig. 1. Fig. lis a crosssection in detail on line 2 .2, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a similar view to that shown in Fig. 1, and illustrating similar parts, but in slightly modified arrangement, as will be hereinafter more particularly mentioned.
The holder-frameAis at its one end shaped to form a convenient handle, 10, and at its other end is widened and bifurcated, its legs 12 12 extending parallel with each other, and on their inner facing edges provided with suitable grooved ways, 13 13, in which the setplate B by its one end portion is entered for a longitudinal slide. The set-plate has formed in one or both of its edges, toward the outer ends thereof, slots 14 14, which may be more or less in number, of varying depths and widths to closely fit varying sizes of saw-teeth.
At the outer end of one or both of the said legs 12 extends a lateral arm, 15, terminating in an outwardly extending lug or nose, 16, and between the said legs 12, at one side of the set-plate B, is a bridge-web, 17, through which is entered a set-screw, 18, to be turned for a bearing by its inner end against the face of the set-plate for securing the same against any longitudinal movement when in its desired adjustment 011 the holder-frame.
The handle 10 of the frame is provided with a longitudinal bore, 19, within which, as shown in Fig. 1, is loosely disposed .a screwrod, 20, having a button, 21, on its end, which projects beyond the inner end of the handle, said button engaging the inner end of the setplate. 22, within which is placed a nut, 23, having a knurled rim, and screw-thread engaging the said rod 20, the said nut being (as plain) held by the walls of said aperture 22 against any endwise movement. The button 21 of the screw-rod is held against rotation by and at its connection with the set-plate and in any suitable mannerfor instance, by having its opposite edges squared, as seen in Fig. 4, and closely fitting in the socket 25 in the plate B.
Under the construction described by unloosening the set-screw 18 and turning the thumb-nut 23, the screw-rod is moved longitudinally, carrying therewith the set-plate, whereby the line of any desired saw-tooth slot 14 may be brought at any desired distance from the parallel plane coincident with the end of the gage-abutment nose 16, and when adjusted so maintained by turning down the set-screw against the plate.
Entering the slot 14 over a saw-tooth and swinging down the handle end of the implement until the abutment-nose strikes the side of the saw-blade, the said tooth will be offset and to an extent determined by the distance the slot is projected beyond the end of the abutment-nose.

What I claim as my invention is 1. A saw-set consisting of a holder and slide-frame having a laterally-extended abutment-nose at one end, combined with a setplate having one or more slots, 14, in its edge, longitudinallyadjustable on said slide-frame, for the purpose described.
2. The combination, With the holder-frame comprising the legs 12, provided with the slideways 13, the abutment-noses 16, and the bridge-Web, of the set-plate having one or more slots, 14, longitudinally movable in said ways, and the set-screw 18 through said bridge-web for a bearing against the set-plate, substantially as described.
=3. The combination, with the holder-frame having longitudinal slideways, of the edgeslotted set-plate B and a screw-rod, substantially as described, engaging said set-plate and having a screw engagement in the holderframe, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4. The combination, with the holder-frame provided with the longitudinal bore 20, the aperture 22, and having longitudinal slide- Ways, and a laterally-extended abutment-nose, 16, of the edge-slotted set-plate, the screw-rod playing endwise in said handle-bore and having a non-rotatable connection with said setplate, and the nut 23 in said aperture engaging the said screw-rod, substantially as and for the purpose described; 7
5. The combination, withrthe holder-frame provided with the longitudinal bore 20, the aperture 22, and having longitudinal slideways and a laterally-extended abutment-nose, of the edge-slotted set-plate having the rectangular socket 25, the screw-rod playing endwise in said handle-bore and having the squared button 21 engaging said rectangular socket, and the nut 23 in said aperture engaging the said scre-W-rod, all substantially as described and shown, .and for the purpose specified.
