DISPLAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,653, dated April 16, 1889.
Application filed August 6, 1888.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ROBERT KAUFMANN, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have in vented a new and useful Display or Cloak Rack, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to folding rack or frame to facilitate the display of cloaks and like articles of apparel in stores. The rack is so constructed as to be capable of being adjusted to any desired slope for proper eX- hibition of the goods or of being folded into a very compact form for storage or shipment.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of my rack set up in position for use. Fig. II is atop view, and Fig. III is a longitudinal section of my folded rack without the base.
1 1 are two stiles, which are united at their upper ends by an arch, 2, preferably of the represented curved form, and at their lower in the stiles, as at Ll.
5 is a web of any woven fabric-such as of linen, cotton, or wire-.one end of which is wrapped around and securely tacked to the arch 2. The other end of the web is wrapped around and tacked to the rundle 3, which, having been rotated until the web is stretched taut, is made fast in the stiles by means of pins or screws 6 6. Hinged to the stiles, as at 7, are two folding props, 8 9, of which prop 8 has notches 10, which, receiving and holding the cross-piece or stretcher l1 of prop 9, coacts therewith to hold the rack proper to the desired slope.
Serial No. 282,088. (No model.)
inasmuch as the fabric is apt to stretch and become slackened, when it may be readily stretched by removing the pins or screws and turning the rundle, and then reinserting the screws.
I claim as new and of my invention* The display-rack consisting of the stiles 1 1, connected by arch 2 and rundle 3, the latter being journaled in t-he stiles, the fabric 5, secured at top to the arch and wound at bottom on the rundle, the pins 6, for securing the rundle, the prop S, having notches 10, and prop 9, having cross-piece 11, which rests in the notches, said props being hinged, as at 7, substantially as herein explained.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
ROBERT KAUFMANN.
