To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, DAVID D. NOLLEY and ROBERT L. WYATT, of lVilson, in the county of WVilson and State of North Carolina, have 5 invented new a and Improved Curtain-Holder,

of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved device for conveniently 1o lifting the lower end of the curtain to fold it to one side of the window, and for holding the curtain in place when in a folded or closed position.

The invention consists of an arm pivoted I 5 011 the window-frame, and provided at its free end with a clamp engaging the curtain.

My invention is an improvement in the class of curtain-holders consisting of a hook pivoted on the window-frame and adapted 20 for holding the curtain drawn back more or less.

The novel features of construction are as hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying 2 5 drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a front view of the improvement as applied, showing one curtain in a 0 folded position and the other in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same on the lines 00 a; of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same on the lines 3 y of Fig. 1.

The pair of curtains A A are supported in the usual manner from the upper end of the window-frame B, provided with the sill 0, carrying 011 top, near each side, a bearing, D, in which is pivoted an arm, E, provided at its 40 free end witha threaded pin, F, extending outwardly at right angles to the arm E and passing through the curtain near its inner edge.

At the pivoted. end of the arm E is formed a lug, J, standing nearly at right angles to the arm E, so that when the latter is swung upward past the vertical position, as shown to the left in Fig. 1,the said lug then rests on the sill O and prevents a further sidewise swinging motion of the arm E. When the curtain is hung on the window-frame B, then the pin F is passed through the curtain near its inner edge, the arm E ,then being in a horizontal position resting on the window-sill C, as shown to the right in Figs. 1 and 3. The washer H is then placed on the pin F in front of the curtain and pressed against the rear washer, Gr, by the handle I, screwing on the pin F, the washer Gr having been placed on the pin F before the latter was passed onto the curtain. Then the operator desires to lift and fold the curtain to one side, he takes hold of the handle I and swings the arm E upward into the position shown to the left in Fig, l, the lug J then resting on the window-sill O and prevent ng a further swinging motion of the arm. The latter in its upward movement carries with it part of the curtain, so that the latter is folded to one side of the window-frame, as shown to the left in Fig. l, and held there for the reason that the arm E has passed the vertical line.

\Vhen the operator desires to have the curtain closed, he swings the arms E into a horizontal position, as shown to the right in Fig. 1, the said arms then resting on the windowsill.

It will be seen that by the improved device the curtains can be quickly and symmetrically lifted and folded to one side of the window-frame or held in a closed position whenever desired.

Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1..
