SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,717, dated March 19, 1889. Application filed July 23, 1888. Serial No. 280,709. (No modelm To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB WILKENING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Day ton, in the county of Montgomery and. State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Vheels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked'thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in game-wheels, the several features of which will be fully hereinafter set forth.

The principal objects of my invention are to rotate the Wheel by a convenient arrangement of cords attached to the shaft and to feed the balls automatically to said wheel by raising bars driven upwardly by a projection on the Wheel. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the machine, with portions cut away to exhibit the interior. Fig. 2 is a view of the same below the line on, Fig. 1, with the exception of the wire conduit.

A is a quadrangular frame, having receptacles L on both sides to contain the spheres or marbles used with the machine. At both sides are two uprights, M M, separated by two blocks, one near the base of the frame and the other near the top, as indicated by transverse dotted lines on said uprights. EX- t-ending from the top of one pair of uprights to the other is the piece 0, which, with the side pieces, N, form a channel for the marbles S. This bottom piece has holes through it to receive the end of the wire conduits G G, and through which the marbles roll into the same.

E is a hollow cylinder attached to the top, into which the marbles may be placed.

7 The parts N and P have mortises, into which are placed the discharging-bars D D. These bars have pins which engage the lower cross-piece to arrest their downward movement. The top ends have an incline facing outwardly, so that the marble is held between the incline and the side of the mortise. Within the base-board and the cross-piece is pivoted the shaft F. To this shaft is attached the circular board or wheel 0. On the face of this wheel are two series of concentric cavities, (designated by numerals from 1 to 8,) and to this face is attached the projection J, having a rounded upper surface, which engages the bars successively as the wheel is revolved.

B is a metallic plate held in the frame, and is provided with a rim to prevent the marbles leaving the face of the Wheel. To the shaft are attached the cords I I. These are carried to one side and pass through orificesin the plate H, attached to the side of the frame, the use being to revolve the wheel in alternate directions as one is pulled and then the other.

G G are spiral-wire conduits, which are held in the frame by the resiliency of the metal, and serve the purpose of conducting the marbles onto the wheel.

' The operation is thus described: Place ten marbles in the cylinder at the top; pull one string, and at each half-revolution of the wheel a marble is thrown into the wire conduit, through which it passes to the wheel, where itfinally settles into one of the cavities, and when the first string is unwound pull the other, and continue until all the marbles are fixed in the cavities. Then find the sum of the numbers contiguous to said cavities thus filled.

I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. In a game-wheel, the combination of frame A, having a channeled top for the conveyance of marbles, wire conduits G G to convey said marbles from said channels to the wheel, discharging-bars D D, operated by projection J of the wheel, and the revolving wheel O, provided with numbered cavities to receive said marbles, substantially as shown and described.
