SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,229, dated March 5, 1889.
Application filed September 3, 1888. Serial No. 284,464. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN M. SCOTT, of Auburn, county of Cayuga, in the State of New York, a citizen of the United St-ates,have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in l'remon-Sipieczers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whieh- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the squeezer opened, showing by dotted lines the position of the platen and the cam-lever when the lever is thrown over, the squeezerljieing mount ed upon a standard having a base adapted to be secured in a stationary manner upon the top of a table. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the ctmstruction shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the construction shown in 4. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the squeezer provided on the back side of the standard with a jaw and a setscrew, so that the squeczer can be d etaehably mounted upon the edge of a table and secured bytheihumbscrew shown. Fig. Ii is a side elevation of the cup.
My invention relates to apparatus for expressing juices from fruits.
My object is to insure a vertical action of the platen, and also to quickly impart and steadily increase the pressure thereof, thereby more thoroughly and completely expressing the juices,
My invention consists in the several novel also be observed that the cup l3 is detachable features of construction and operation, hereinafter described, and which are set Forth in the claims hereto annexed.
It is constructed as follows: A is the standard, shown in Figs. 1 and 2 as adapted to be secured upon the top of the table and in Figs. 3 and 4 as adapted by means of side brackets and a set-screw to be secured to the edge of configuration on its lower side as to lit the 1 cup, and attached to the platen are parallel l l l I stems 9, provided with slots 7.
, project These stems are fitted to slide between the flanges 8 on the standard, and the cars it) on the uprights 11 through the slots 7. The platen is provided on one side with vthe curved bar or l hook 12, which operates to control both the the table. The top of the standard is bifur- 1 cated, forming the slotway 2 between the uprights or vertical bars 1, which bars are provided with ears 10 at their upper ends and flanges S at their lower ends, as shown. The standard is provided with lugs on its front or inner edges.
B is a slotted or perforated cup provided with abracket, 3, and hooks L on each side of and projecting beyond said bracket.
The
upward and downward throw thereotf. Between the stems fl, and jOlllllzllQLl therein, 1 mount the friction-roller 13, contiguous to the top of the platen. Between the uprights or bars 1 and in the slotiway I pivot the lever C, which is provided with a cam, 1%, bearing directly upon the friction-roller 13. The cars are perforated, and the springs are secured at one end to the one and at the other to an eye upon each of the stems adjacent to the top of the platen.
it will be observed that by throwing their:- ver over the platen 11 is forced downward by the cam impinging upon the roller 13, and the farther it is thrown over the more the platen.
is forced down and the greater i-ho pressure upon the material in the cup, and that as soon springs 15 will it will as the lcveris thrown back the lift the platen away from the cup.
by removing the pin 6 and uuhrmking the hooks.
What I claim is 1. The cup B, provided with a hraeket,3,
bearing upon the friction -1o11e1', and the I In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my springs 15, connected to the platen-stems at f hand this 37th day of August, 1888. one end and to the ears 10 at the other, in combination with the cup B, provided with a EDXVIN M. SCOTT. 5 bracket, 3, and hooks 4, hooking over the lugs 5 upon the standard, and a pin, 6, inserted In presence ofthrough the standard above the cup-hooks, f V. E. WVEBSTER, substantially as described. HENRY J. \VHITE.
