To all whom, t may concern:
'Be it known that We, FRANK MEsKER and HENRY F. EDWARDS, of St. Louis, Missouri, jointly have made a nenr and useful Improvement in Plate-Metal Columns, of which 'the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The improvement rela-tes to that type et' plate-1netal columns which is employed in architectural Work such as building-frontsand composed mainly of plates or plates and angle-irons riveted together, and usually having ornamental attachments upon the front of the column.
The improvement consists in the special shape and combination ot the part-s ooinposing the column, and in the means `for stilli'ening the column and applyin the attachments, substantially as is hereinafter sot forth and claimed, aided hy the annexed drawings, niaky ing part ot' this specification, in whieh- Figure l is a view in perspective of the iniproved coluinn; Fig. 2, a vertical section ol.' the column on the line 2 Q of Fig. 3, which, in turn, is a horizontal section et' the column; Fig. .4, a vertical section on the line l flol? The improved unornamented eolinnn isi composed mainly ot three plaies, two anglelrons, and two tpiarter-turn curved angleirons, combined as follows:
A represents a flat plate, which forms the front ot' the Column.

(f C represent angledrons atlaehed, respectively, to the sides l B at the rear edge and upon the innerslde thereof, suhstantially as shown.
D D represent the curved angle-irons. They are arranged, respectively, at the front corners of the column.v The trout plate, A, when in position, is not between the side plates or against the front edges thereof, but is spaced l apart from the side plates, and it stands in front of them, substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and itis held in place and united to the sides B B hy means of the curved angle-irons, which are applied so that the edge d of the curved angle-iron laps upon the outer faee ot' the Front plate, and is riveted to the 'front plate, and the edge d of the curved angle-iron laps upon the outer faee of the side plate, and is riveted to the side plate. By this means the column at its front corners is both strengthened and oruaniented. Another feature ot the eoluinn is the means for stiffening it.
