Fig. l is an enlarged View of a portion of the sheets, showing the lips cutinto the top edge of the tongued-up portion a and into the cleat or anchor and turned down.
The present invention has relation to metal roofing; and its nature consists in the different parts and combination of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly point-ed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A reprcsents the sheets, which are constructed of the desired length, one edge of said sheets being provided with the tonguedaip portion a, the opposite edge being provided with the tongued up portion h. In use a strip or sheet, A, is placed on the roof, when the anchors B are placed against the tongued-up portion a and securely nailed to the sheeting of the roof. The portion of the cleat or anchor B which abuts against the tongued-up portion a extends to the top or upper edge of said portion.
For the purpose of securely locking the anchors the top or upper end of said anchors and the upper edge of the tongueduip portion a are cut or notched, as shown at C, and the portion or lips so formed are bent or folded down, as illustrated in the drawings, thereby securely and firmly locking the anchors to the sheets. The tongued-up portion a extends a short distance above the top of the tonguedup portion 1), and the portion so exteudin g is bent or folded over the tongued-up portion 1), thereby carrying with it the cleat or anchor B, thus forming a water-tight joint.
It will be seen that the lips C may be cut or formed at any point between the top of the tongued-up portion a and the top of the tongued-up portion Z), said lips being cut through the anchors and tongued-up portion a and both of said lips folded down.
IL ving fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the sheets A, provided with the tongued-up portions a and b, the lips 0, formed in the tongued-up portion a and the anchors B and said lips folded over each other, and the tongued-up portion a ex tending above the tongued-up portion Z), bent or folded over the tongued-up portion Z), together with the anchors B and lips 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The sheets A, provided with the touguedup portions a and b, the anchor B, and the lips i 0, formed in the anchors B and the ton gued-up portion a, said lips cut opposite to each other and both of said lips bent down, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
