ATTACHMENT FOR GANG CHEESE-PRESSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 398,932, dated March 5, 1889.

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. .BEAJ1()N,'L citizen of the United States, residing at Hallock, in the county of Kittson and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attaclnnenis for a Gang Cheese-Press; and I do declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to gang cheesepresses, and has for its object the provision of an attachmenti'orholding the cheese-hoops in alignment when pressure is brought lo bear and guiding them in their movement.

The gang-press herein shown is oil welllcnown construction and is shown simply to illustrate the application of my invention.
The attachment, composed of the series of longitudinal strips A and the cross-bars B, is
secured to the frame of the press in any convenient manner, preferably by the vertical i short bars C, which are hinged at their upper ends to the said cross-bars and are bolted to the frame. The hasps D, hinged to the opposite ends of the cross-bars, are adapted to fit f strips being arranged to come over the said lguides, substantially as described, for the l over staples c on the press-frame and hold the attachment down. There are two pairs of these longitudinal strips A, each pair corresponding to the hoop-guides G G of the frame The opposing edges of each pair of strips are l beveled to give clearance for the chcesehoops, f and are adjustably connected with the cross A and through elongated perforations b in the cross-bars, and the thumb-screws E, screwed 011 the ends of the bolts cl. The cross-bars are arched at f f to give clearance for the cheese-hoops.
The frame of the press, which is of ordinary construction, comprises a middle and side beams, G and G, respectively, which form guides and hold the cheese-hoops against lateral displacement, and two pairs of bars, K and K, for supporting the two rows of cheesehoops from below. The nuts I, of well-known construction, a re adj ustal'ily held to the beams by the pins g, which pass through one of a series of openings in each of the said beams in the usual and well-kn own manner. The strips A have openings corresponding with the openings in the beams G and G, so that the pins 9 can be removed and the nuts I adjusted without raising the attachment. In some instances t-hc holes in the strips may be dispensed with, and the pins 1 will come flush with the tops of the beams, finger-notches being provided to grasp the ends of the pins when it is desired to remove them.
In practice the attachment is turned up out l of the way, and after the checse-hoops to the desired number are placed in the guides in the frame the attachment is turned down and secured by thehasps I), which are fitted over the staples c. The upper portions of the cheesehoops fit between the opposing edges of the strips, which hold the said hoops down and prevent their bulging or getting out of alignment, and also guide the hoops in their movement.
