In operation the material to be pulverized is admitted through the feed-pipe F from a supply above, and is rapidly drawn in by means of the suction air-blower, where it comes in contact with a rapid current of air 3o traveling with and caused by the rapid rotation of said beater-head. Th e said current, together with the `arms and beaters of said beaterhead, throws the material radially into an opposite rotating current of air, caused by the 3 5 opposite rotation of the drum, and against material clinging to the inner surface of said drum and the beaters attached thereto', causing rapid disintegration of the material, more from its contact with its particles than with 4o any part of the machine, by utilizing the two oppositely-rotatiug currents of air by means of rotating the drum and beater-head in opposite directions and Without much Wear on any part of the machine. The suction airblower causes a cross-current of air to pass through the machine, which not only assists in feeding in and disintegrating the material, but withdraws the lighter pulverized material as fast as accumulated from the drum 5o through the perforations Vaud from any part of the case, as indicated by the arrows l 2 3 in Fig. 2. The centrifugal force of the drum and beater-head has the tendency to throw the heavier particles of the material outward against the beaters R and the accumulated material clinging to them, Where they are ground to a fine powder, Which gathers more toward the center of the drum, so it can be Withdrawn through the perforations by means of the suction air-blower, as stated. The machine is intended to pulverize stone or ore, but may be used to pulverize any materialv to which it is adapted.
Having thus described our invention, What We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
l. In the pulverizing-machine shown and described, the combination of the drum D,
having its inner head, D6, provided with the perforations V, surrounding its hub and the removable lining-plates a., the notched beaterplates R, arranged on its inner peripheral surface, the head D', having a central feedopening and the removable lining-plates a', the beater-head Di", consisting of the hub H, radial arms y, and beaters d, secured to the outer ends ot' said arms, and the case C, the said beaterhead D"l arranged Within said drum and adapted to rotate in an opposite direction therefrom, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, udth the case C, consisting of two parts hinged together and having the feed-pipe F, and the exit-pipe E, arranged on the side of said case opposite to said feed-pipe, shaft S, beater-head D5, consisting of the hub H, secured on Vthe inner end of said shaft and having radial arms y, and beater-plates (Z, secured on the outer ends of said arms, shaft S', rotatable drum D, consisting of hub D2, secured on said shaft, head D6,- having the central perforations, V, and the removable lining-plates a, and head D', having the cent-ral feed-opening' surrounded by the outwardly-projecting flange D4, and having the removable lining-plates a', all .arranged to operate substantiallyas and for the purpose set forth.
