PATENT NAIL-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 398,724, dated February'26, 1889.
Application filed November 15, 1888. Serial No. 290,886. (No model.) 7
To all whorlt it nu/y concmw:
Be it known that 1, GA Y HENDRICKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beardstown, in the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nail-Boxes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to counters, and has for its object to provide bins for holding commodities, particularly hardware-such as nails, bolts, &c.that can be conveniently handled and pushed under the counter out of the way, and which can be readily withdrawn to permit free access bein had for replenishing them or removing their contents.
The improvement consists of the novel construction of the bin and the supports for the same, whereby the bin is permitted to tilt and is limited in its movement by the tilting sections of the supports, which will be hereinafter more fully described and. claimed, and which is shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a counter ombodying myinvention; Fig. 2,a section on the 1ine 501- of Fig. 1,100king to the left; and Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the bin drawn forward and tilted.
The counter is of ordinary construct-ion, comprising the leg-section A, the top B, the front 0, and the back 1'). The bin E is held between two of the leg-sections on the sup ports F F, each, being composed of two sections, F and F The section F is fixed and extends in a horizontal plane, and has its front end, f, beveled outward, as shown. The section F is pivoted at its inner end, which end f is beveled rearward to correspond with the beveled end f. The pivot is near the bottom of the section, and is placed at some distance from said inner end, so that when the said section is tilted the said endf will project above the top of the support F and form a stop, which limits the forward motion of the bin, and which is engaged by the bin when the latter is pushed in to return the said section to itsnormal position. The cross bar G limits the downward movement of the sections F and serves for a rest for the bin.
The bin has rollers II, which are grooved in their periphery and which run on rails h on the supports F, the rails being shaped on their upper surface to fit the groove or other form of the rollers II. The bottom of the bin inclines from each end, meeting on a line near its rear end, to have the greatest capacit of the bin near its rear end, so that the bulk of the weight will rest on the fixed sections 32 of the supports. The lower edges of the sides of the bin incline from each end to correspond with the bottom.
The operation of; the bin is as follows: When in a normal position, as shown. in Figs. '1 and 2, the bin is supported in a nearly-hortzontal position, its rear rollers resting on the sections F and its frontrollers resting on the inner ends, f, of the pivoted sections F in the rear of their pivotal supportsj. the bin is drawn forward, the weight being shifted from the inner ends of the pivoted sections onto their front ends causes the said pivoted sections to tilt, carrying with them the bin. The inner ends, f, being thrown up above the top of the sections F form stops which engage with the rear rollers of the bin and limit its forward movement. When the bin is pushed back, the front rollers thereof, engaging with the said cndsf, return the pivoted sections to their normal position.
Having thus described in y invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The combination, with the counter and the support for the nail-box, composed of a fixed and a pivoted guide-rail, of the bin mounted on the said support and limited in its forward movement by engaging with a portion of the said pivoted guide-rail, sub stantially as described.
2. The combination, with the counter and the nail-box support composed of a fixed and a pivoted guide-rail, of the bin mounted on. the said support and having its bottom i11- clined downwardly from each end and meeting on a line near its rear end, substantially as and for the purpose described.
lVhen I 3, The combination, with the counter and the nail-box support composed of a fixed guide-rail having a downwardly-beveled end, f, and a pivoted guide having" an upwardlyprojectil'lg end, f, of the bin adapted to rest on the fixed guide and on the end f of the pivoted guide, said end f forming a stop to limit the forward movement of the bin when the latter is tilted, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with the counter having the leg-sections A, the back D, and the cross-bar G, and the supports for the nail-box, composed of. the fixed sections F having the S. P. HENDRICKS, JNo. W. RICHARDS.
