SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 398,696, dated February 26, 1889.

lle it known that I, J ACOB L. BRALLIER, of the city of Philadelphia, and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and `useful Improvement in Sti'ap-liasteners; and I do hereby declare the tollowingt) be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being` had to the acconupanyin g drawings, `forming part of this specification.

My invention has relation principally to fasteners for securing the loose end ot the band of a. necktie or scarf after it has passed around the neck to the tie or scarf and holding it in proper positiol'i, and it consists in a small metal trame or easing open at the up per and lower ends and sewed or otherwise secured to the inner side ot' the tie or scart'. To the lower opening oi' the casing is hinged a tongue or clamp, which, when the tie end is passed through the iframe or casing, is pushed down and brought to bear against the tie end and retained in that position by means of a spring-plate provided in the trame, and thereby prevents the tie end or scart' from slippin g.

The object of my invention is io provide aiastener which will rigidly hold the strap er band well in position, and which at the same time can be fastened or released b'v a single simple nioven'ient of the tongue or clamp.

A lfurther object is to provide a Afastener which shall be tree troni pins or springs, and thereby prevent the wearing out and tringing of the tie end by the constant puncturing, and at the same time prevent the pricking oi' the lingers, which constantlyv occurs in adjusting the si rap where pins are employed.

In. the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view oi' the fastener. lfig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. represents the fastener applied in position to the rear of a tie or scart.

The fastener is secured in the ease of atie or scarf to the back of the tie or scarf in some such position as shown in Fig. 3. Then the tie end B is to be secured, it is passed through the traine A to the proper length, the clamp or tongue C being raised, as shown in Fig. l. lVhen the scarf is in the proper position, the clamp C is then pressed down partially, when the spring-plate l) engages the lug or proj eetion c, provided on the clamp C, and presses the said clamp C firmly down upon the soit material of the band or strap and holds it there firmlyv and prevents it from slippin The clamp C is somewhat cam-shaped, as shown in Fig. and as a consequence anbvv tension brought to bear on the tie end B from above would tend to more rigidly tighten it in the clamp O. The spring-pla-tebis secured to the sides a CL of the frame A by the ears e e, or other suitable means. The lug or projection c, provided on the clamp C, is so adjusted that when the clamp C is down the spring-plate presses upon it, which. in turn communicates the pressure to the clamp C.
