length preferably slightly greater than the length of the strip or slat B. Integral with the upper longitudinal edge of the body a flange, d, is formed extending a proper dis- 5 5 tance downward at right angles to the body, which flange is purposed to enter the groove b of the slat B, as best shown in'Fig. 2. The lower longitudinal edge of the body is carried inward and preferably outward to an eccen- 6o trio contact with the outer face of the body to provide a longitudinal and cylindrical bead, d It will be observed that when the protector is placed in position upon the slat it entirely covers the front and essentially the lower por- 6 5 tion of the curtain when rolled up, and that the cylindrical bead of the lower edge admits of the curtain being raised and lowered Without chafing against the protector. The ends of the protector are preferably closed, as illus- 7o trat-ed at E in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. When, how ever, the protectors are used in series, the ends of the intermediate protectors may be made to abut, in which event the end pieces may be. dispensed with. Should the several protectors of the series be spaced, the end pieces, E, are essential.
When the series of covers or protectors arein position, they will form a molding as far as they extend. The exhibitors may be used with any curtainffixturesyand, in addition to their use in connection with a store, may be employed over the windows of dwelling-houses to greatadvantage, especially if one is renting and moving from one house to another, as the protector may be put up the full-width of the curtain and the slats be secured to the casing of a wide or narrow window. If the Window is narrow, the curtain can project over thecasing, and should it be removed to a house with 9e wide windows no alteration of the curtain will Be it known that l, EDWIN A. BULLARD, of Vassar, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, have invented a ncwand Improved Exhibitor for Window-Shmles, Maps, 4350., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
-My invention relates to an improvement in exhibitors i'or window-shadcs, maps, and similar articles, and has'for its object to provide a readily-attaohnble device of simple construction, which will etiectually conceal the shade when rolled up and shield the same from light and dust.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of the sii-veral part s, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference iobc had totheacuompanying of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. I Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device, partly in section, applied to ashade, the latter 'tion on line .0 a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 a plan view ofa series of exhibitors, the shades being rolled up and one exhibitor partly in section; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an exhibitor detached.
In carrying out the invention, the filvtures tain, A, attached,,are secured upon one face of strip, B, of wood, or other suitable material, preferably at the ends thereof. A strip or slat, B, or a series of the same,'is adapted to be nailed, screwed, or otherwise secured to the cornice of a storeover the shelving. \Vhen' I a number of strips or slats are employed, they are a ranged over the shelving in succession, horizontal alignment a suitable distance a part, as best shown in Fig. 3. i
in the upper longitudinal edge of the strips or slats B a groove, 5, is produced, extending preferably from end to end, as best shown to the leftin-Fig. 3, which groove is pnrposed to receive and retain in position over the curtain fixtures and roller aprotcctor, D.
The protector consists of a pieceoi sheet 5 metal, wood, or equivalent material bent upon I itself to form a semi-cylindrical body, (I, of a be required. 1 v I i When the exhibitor is used for samples, the said samples are kept free from dust and light, comparatively little room is occupied, and the customer is kept-upon his or her, side of the counter, and the'salesman may expeditiously and conveniently exhibit all samples of stock at the same time, thereby giving the customer the opportunity of seeing and buyingto better roe advantage than heretofore, v
If in practice it is found advisable, the slat B may be dispensed with and the fixture be attached direetlyto the cornice or Window-frani e, 1
in which event; the groove adapted to reeeive the protector in produced direetly in said eornice or frame. v
Having thus described my invention, What, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- 13ers Patent, is-- '1; As an improved article of manufacture,
i l l l l l a protector for window-shades, eonsistingof a i semi-cylindrical body having closed ends and provided along its upper longitudinal edge with a downwardly-projeeting flange, and a cylindricalbead along itsv lowerlong'itudinal edge, as set forth.
2. The combination with a slat having a longitudinal groove in the upper edge, said slat adapt-ed to earl-ya (-nrtain and tixlure. o!
a protector' consisting of a :wmi-qvlindrieal body provided with a longitudinal flange extending at right angles downward from the upper edge and engagingthe groove of said slat, sulistantially as shown and described.
3 The eonllnnation, with a slat, having a longitudinal groove in the upper edge, said Slat adapted to carry a curtain and fixtures,
. of a proteetor eonsistingof asemi-cylindrical body having closed ends and provided with a .I. l". Amen, J12, C. SEoon'icK.
