Pat-ented July 29 1919. 2 sHEETs-sHsET 2.
. 42 INVENTOR marriin JOHN sown, or KANSAS oirx, KANshs. .I
cunrAIN-Honnnia. 'i i have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lCurtain-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting draperies for windows and like openings.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a pair of brackets engageable with a window frame and from which extend supportingA means for portires, curtains and shades, all being so combined, that they may be removed or applied as a unit. v
This is accomplished by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1l is a front elevational view of a conventional type of window, looking from the interior of the building.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing one of the brackets employed.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken substantially on line 4 4 of Fig, 3, and
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, the wall of the building is indicated by the numeral 1() in which is formed an openin receptive of the window frame 11 provide with upper and lower sashes respectively 12 and 13.
Attached to the outwardly extending horizontal portion 14 of the window frame, is a bracket comprised of a Hat plate 15 having an ornamental top portion 16 and an extending side portion 17. Formed integrally with the lower portion of the plate and extending rearwardly therefrom, are bent elements 18 and 19 through which are formed openings 20 for screws, nails or like securing means, whereby the brackets are rmly engaged with the frame of the win- Extending horizontally from the front of the plate 15 is an ornamental post 22, secured to the bracketl plate by the screw 23, and having near its outer end, a slot l Specification of Letters Pate-nt.
Y "Patented- July 29,
v Application niafiramiarjf 2,8;11919.71'- seriainltv'ass'."
24 adapted to receive a portire pole or the like, it being understood that these brackets are arranged in pairs on opposite sides of the window frames, the portire pole 25 being finished at its end with ornamental knobs 26 and supporting the portires 27, the same being adjustable along the pole as is common. Y
Immediately below the post 22 is an outstanding plate element 30, its base 31 being riveted into the plate 15, while in the upper part of the circular head 32 are formed vertical slots 33 receptive of an ordinary shade fixture, the flattened -ends of which are received within the slots 33, so that the shades 35 hang pendant therefrom.
Extending completely across the plates 15 and sections 17, is a T shaped hollow metal casing 35 having an end covering 36 and a partition or wall 37 in its length, the same acting as journals for a rod 38 which extend from sid-e to side of the window and is provided with a fixed collar 39, immediately adjacent to the partition 37.
The outer ends of the rod have secured to them knurled knobs 40 by which the rods may be turned and secured to the inner surface of the collar 39 is one end of a coiled torsion spring 42, thel other end being secured to the head 36, the arrangement being such that by twirling the knob 4() more or less torsion may be placed upon the spring 42, thereby tensioning the rod 38, which may support a drapery or the like so that the same may be normally raised without effort on part of the operator.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a neat and serviceable curtain bracket yhas been disclosed, in which all of the several members are secured upon a single plate so that they can be removed or applied as a unit in an el'ective manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a window drapery holder of the character described, the combination of a plate, a T-shaped hollow metal casing extending across said plate, a covering for said casing, a partition wall in said casing, a rod journaled in said partition wall and eX- tending from side to side of the window, a
collar on said rod in the vlcinity of said parti/tion, knurled .knobI nai; ighe- Venvis Jo-f name tothis. speeioabion, inthefpresence of said =rod, a coiled compression) 'vslal'i'ligg,l se; f Wo subs'e'i'ibng'fvthesss, this lth? day of 10 cured to tefinner surface of saii1 (iollar, January 1919. and a hea 0r said Casin to W ic the other end of said .spring secured', slib? l JOHN SOWA stantally as described, and for the purpose y.
