Be it known that I, J ANKO LADISLAV MI- KICH, of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Door and *indow Burglar-Alarm, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to burglar-alarms, and has for its object to provide a portable burglar-alarm which may be secured in position adjacent to a Window or door, so that upon the opening of the same the alarm will be tripped and the cartridge detonated.

The invention consists in a door and window burglar-alarm constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a side view of the burglar-alarm detached. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof secured in operative position. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the alarm detached, looking at the under side thereof. Fig. 4c is a detailed view of the tripping device detached. Figs. 5 and 6 are detailed views of parts detached, and Fig. 7 is a vertical section of the hammerhead.

At the side of the forward end of the arm 1 is secured a metallic strip, 6, having bent spring ends 7 extending over the top of the arm 1 and projecting over the edge of the circular opening 4. A pointed lip or projection, 8, is formed on the strip 6 between the spring ends 7, by means of which the latter may be pressed back from the edge of the circular opening 4. The spring projections 7 are adapted to hold the cartridge in place by extending slightly over the top thereof, the projections 7 being released by pressing back on the projection 8.

To the rear end of the arm 1 is pivoted an arm, 9, formed at its forward end with a hammer-head, 10, and a curved arm, 11, for raising the hammer in position to be set. The face of the hammer-head 10 is provided with a recess, 12, in which is located a reboundingplate, 13, having a center-pin, 14, for exploding the cartridge, and a lateral recess, 15, which receives the spring ends 7 when the hammer-head 10 is brought down against the top of the cartridge. The rebounding-plate 13 is of a sufficient width to cover the head of the cartridge, the flange or rim of the latter overlapping the opening 4.

Beneath the arm 1 is secured a sprin -strip, 16, held in place by having its end project between a lug, 17, on the cylinder 5 and the under side of the arm 1 and secured in place by screws, 18, projecting into the arm 1. The outer end of the spring 16 is formed with a forked hooked end, 19, which engages the lateral arms 20 of a vertical rod, 21, projecting through a slot, 22, in the arm 1 and pivoted at its upper end to the hammer-arm 9.

To set the hammer in position for use, a vertical arm, 23, is looselysecured at its lower end, having shoulders 23, by a screw, 24, to the side of the arm 1, the arm 23 being normally held out by the tension of spring U,eX- tending between shouldered portion 23 and the arm 1, and is formed at its upper end with a bracket, 25, having a curved portion, 26, against which abuts the cam-shaped head 27 of a trigger-arm, 28, the head 27 havinga lug, 30, pivoted to the bracket The upper end of the arm 23 adjacent to the bracket is formed with an inclined portion, 29, on which is supported the hammer-arm 9 when the latter is set in position for use. The bracketarm 1 being secured by a screw, 3, to the wood-work 31 adjacent to the door 32, as shown in Fig. 2, the upper end of the arm 28 will be located in close proximity to the door 32, and upon the latter being opened it will strike against the trigger 28, and, forcing the latter forward,will cause the cam-shaped head 27 to turn on the bracket 25, and the latter, being loosely connected by the screw 24 with the arm 1 will be forced slightly backward on its shouldered end, the latter preventing itfrom tilting laterally, thereby releasing the inclined portion 29 of the arm 23 from the 28 will be acted upon in the same manner as with a'door. here the alarm is used with a sliding window the end of arm 28 may bear against the lower cross-bar of the window, and upon the window being raised will be pushed back, only a slight movement of arm 28 being necessary.

The advantages of this invention will be apparent, owing to the fact that it may be readily secured in position and set for operation, and that upon being tripped it will alarm the inmates of the dwelling, a very slight opening of the door or window causing the alarm to be operated. The invention will be found specially useful for travelers in hotels.

WVhen the alarm is not in use, it can be unscrewed from the frame-work, or the arm 28 can be moved out of the way by turning the arm 1 backward on the screw 3.

In case of a door opening outward the arm 1 may be secured to the door and the trigger 28 bear against the door-jamb. By means of this device an alarm will be given to the inmates of a room and the entire house, as well as to the neighbors and passers-by. It may be carried from place to place and readily put' in position for use, and forms a cheap and effective burglar-alarm. Blank cartridges loaded with powder and asbestus wadding only may be employed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i l. A window and door burglanalarm comprising an arm adapted to be detachably secured to a door-jamb or window-frame, a cartridge-support carried by said arm, a pivoted and spring-actuated hammer on the en d of the arm opposite the cartridge-snpport, a bracket pivoted to the said arm and holding the hammer elevated, and a tripping-arm operated by the opening of the door or window for disengaging the bracket from the hammer, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. A window and door burglar-alarm com sisting of a detachable arm, with means for fastening it in position to the wood-work adjacent to a door or window, a cartridge-support located 011 the arm, with a movable clamp for holding the cartridge in place, a springactuated hammer pivoted to the detachable arm, a support for holding the hammer in striking position, and a tripping-arm or trigger for releasing the hammer, operated by the opening of the door or window, substantially as shown and described.

A window and door burglar-alarm consisting of a detachable arm adapted to be secured to the frame-work of a door or window, and having a spring-actuated hammer, a car'- tridge-support, and a retaining-catch and a bracket for holding the hammer in striking position, with a trigger-arm extending laterally from the bracket and having a cam-shaped head pivoted thereto and bearing against the hammer-arm, substantially as shown and de- 'scribed.
