My invention consists in the use of a b'rushI handle, with az wedge or cone shapedpoint us a mechanica-l power to secure the knotl of hair or bristles of'the brush and the handle itself within a cone-shaped l'errule previously Constructed, the knot ot' hair or bristles being,` drawn within and partly through the `ll'rrule, and the pointed end ofthe handle inserted in the luitr-end of the knot and forced the wholelength of the` i'errule. The taper et' the handle corresponds with Vthe tapering,` sides of the ferrule, thus causing' a unii'orin mechanical pressure, and holding` thehnot ot' hair or bristles and the handle within the vl'errule hy a torce. limited only by the strength of the. i'errule. and the capacity of the handle to resist compression.
M5' invention also consists in preparing the point of the handle, which is inolosed within the ferrule, by saturatiug' it with hot pitch or other rcsinous substance, to resist the livers of' heat, and moisture or the atmosphere, :in-'l olA walerand other lluids, to which all ot thehrashesto which my invention is applicable ere more or less exposed.
To enable otherssliilled in the art to make afnd use my invention, lf will proceed to describe the inethod rol" construction.
il construct the tcrrnle ot' wood, metal, or any fitting material with a coneshaped hollow or aperture. After dipping the upper or butt end of the bristles in cement, then draw the flag end A, as shown in the accompanying drawings, Fig. 3, through the upper and larger end ol the ferrule B, so that the butt end of the knotI shall he a little within the hollovnot' the ferrul'e. Having; prepared the point ol the brush handle by saturation in some resinous sulisii'xnee., I then force it into the larger end of the i'errule, and the eone shaped point C into the butt-end ot theknot, so as to till completelythe larger end ofthe ferrule, thus holding); firmly the bristles and end ot' the handle within the t'errule.
NVhatI claim as my inventio`n,and desire to secure by Letters Patent', is-
A brush-handle with a wedge or cone shaped point, ineonibinaton with a cone-Shaped ferrule, the wedge or cone shaped point being inserted into the huttend ofthe knot or bris tles after being saturated with hot pitch or other resinons substance, as specified.
