UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES CHRISTOPHER HIATT, OF MARTINSVILLE, OHIO.
BARREL-SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,705, dated November 27, 1888.
Serial No. 267,057. (No model.)
.TO aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CHRISTOPHER HIATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinsville, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in BarrelSwings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to barrel-swings; and
it consists in the improvements hereinafter described, whereby a simple and efficient attachment is provided for the under side of a counter, that will enable a barrel to be supported in a pivotal position to permit it to be readily swung beneath and from under the counter.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a vertical elevation showing my improvement ar-' ranged beneath a counter, and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation.
A circular plate, A, is perforated for the passage of screws to enable it to be secured to the floor beneath the counter B. The central part of the plate A is slightly raised to enable it to form an elevated seat.
0 designates a vertical bar, of hard wood, square in crosssection, and having its ends 1) reduced, as shown. The lower reduced end bears permanently in the socket portion 0 of a casting, D.
A horizontal extension, E, formsan integral part of said casting D, and is providedon its 5 f is a horizontal extension, 9, provided on its under side, at its outer end, with depending ears h, the recess between them being the reverse of that between the ears d d on the casting beneath.
The upper reduced end, b, of the bar 0 bears in a depending metal socket, G, which is provided with a circular plate, i, perforated for its attachment to the under side of the countertop, and provided with the cylindrical bearingportion j, in which the end 1) turns.
The parts being in the position shown in Fig. 1, the upper casting, F, can be moved upward upon the bar 0, and the barrel, in a vertical position, can then be raised so that its lower chine will be in the recess between the ears d d, which corresponds with the shape of the chine. The upper casting, F, can then'be lowered so that its ears h h will take over the upper chine of the barrel. The weight of the barrel will cause the parts to bind and remain in engagement, so that the said barrel is hung in a pivotal support, of which the bar 0 forms the pivot. The bracket can then be swung readily beneath and from under the counter.
It will be obviousthat the metal parts of the device are in the form of castings which can be readily and cheaply manufactured.
I claim 1. The combination of the plate A, the casting bearing in said plate and having an integral arm provided on its upper side with chine-engaging ears, the bar 0, having its lower end bearing in the said casting, the depending metal socket G, forming a bearing for the upper end of the bar 0, and the arm F, mounted on said bar and having chine-engaging ears on its under side, as set forth.
2. The combination, in a barrel-swing, of a plate, A, having a raised seat, a casting having a socket-bearing in said plate and provided with an annular shoulder to bear upon said seat, and an arm formed integrally with said casting and having chine-engaging cars, substantially as specified.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GlIA RLES CHRISTOPHER lIIA'lT.
