Be it known that I, EDWIN L. BARBER, of Henrietta, in the county of Clay and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined or Convertible Tools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The object of my invention is to produce a tool which can be converted readilyinto alargesized or a smallsized screw-driver adapted for different sizes of screws, and which can also be converted readily into a boring-tool or reamer or awl.

Accordingly, my invention consists in the improved construction and organization of parts hereinafter described, and succinctly specified in my appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows an ordinary screw-driver provided with a hole through it, and a small lug or projec tion upon one side ofit. Fig. 2 shows ascrew adapted to pass loosely through said hole. Fig. 8 shows an ordinary thumb-nut adapted to fit the thread of the said screw. Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal slotted tool, one end of it being a screw-driver and the opposite end pointed to serve as an awl, a reamer, or a boring-tool, as may be desired. Fig. 5 shows my improved tool complete, the attachment being slid back out of position for use. Fig. 6 shows the attachment in position for use as a screwdriver, and Fig. 7 shows it in position for use as a reamer, boring-tool, or scratch-aw].

Referring to the letters upon the drawings, A indicates ahole through an ordinary screwdriver; B, a small log or projection; O, a slotted too], the width of the slot corresponding to the size of the lug B, so that the lug will screw-driver handle, adapted to receive the point of the tool 0 and aid in holding the tool in place and prevent its turning on the screw as a pivot when it is out of use.

It will thus be seen that I provide a convenient combined or convertible tool adapted for several uses, which saves the expense of providing several separate tools or instruments.

I am aware that various convertible tools have been heretofore made; but

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

The combination of ascrew-driver, its blade having a hole, A, and a lug, B, and its handle having in its end a socket, H, with a slotted reversible tool, 0, pointed at one end and formed for a screw-driver at the other end adjustably held against one side of the screwdriver by means of a screw and nut and the lug B, and adapted to fit in the socket Hwhen out' of use, substantially as set forth.
