LEO EHRLIOH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR rIO THE AMERICAN ROLL PAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLAGE.
PAPER-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Lettere Patent No. 392,857. aerea November 13, ieee.
Application filed February 13, 1888. Serial No. 263,707. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, Luo EnRLIoH, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, vhave invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Paper-Cutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which* Figure I is an elevation of my improved paper-cutter. Fig. II is an end View.
My invention relates to an improvement in machines for holding and cutting wrappingpaper; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, -1 represents a base, and 2 ends secured to and extending upward from the base. with extensions 3, to which a knife, el, is secured.
5 represents arms pivoted to the extensions at 6 and held in an inclined position by springs 7. I prefer to use springs composed of a single leaf, each secured to the ends, as shown at 8. The springs act to hold the armsin apositioninelined upwardly from theknife, and upon these arms the journals or gudgeons 9 of the roller 10, upon which the paper lll is wound, bear. It will thus be seen that as the springs hold the arms in an inclined position the roller will move downwardly on the latter as the paper is removed, and thus be automatically fed to the knife. As the paper is removed and the roller moves towardtlie knife, it approaches the pivots of the arms 5, and as it does so the weight on the springs of course decreases, and the arms are made by the springs to incline more The ends are'provided 1 or are given a steeper pitch to provide for the decrease in the weight of the roller against the knife. Thus a uniform pressure is had between the rollers and knife at all times.
12 represents projections over the journals 9, which hold the journals on the arms 5. These are preferably formed in one part with the arms. The outer ends of the arms are preferably turned up or hooked, as shown at displaced.
I claim as my invention* l. In apaper-cutter, the combination of the roller, support for the roller, arms pivoted to the support, knife, and springs holding the arms in an inclined position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a papercutter, the combination of the base, ends secured to the base, extensions on the ends, knife secured to the extensions, arms pivoted to the extensions, springs secured to the ends and supporting the arms in an inclined position, and a roller resting on t-he arms, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a paper-cutter, the combination of the base, ends secured to the base, extensions on the ends, knife secured tothe extensions, arms pivoted to the extensions and having hooks on their outer ends, and projections l2 on the arms, springs secured to the ends and sustaining the arms in an inclined position, and a roller bearing on the arms, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LEO EHRLICII.
In presence of- EDWD. S. KNIGHT, J os. WAHLE.
