HAM E-TUG.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,306, dated November 6, 1888.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WALLACE BOARDMAN, of Harrisonville, in the county of Cass and State of Missouri,have invented a new and Improved Hame-Tu g for Harness, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a hame-tug made partly of metal and partly ofleather,and so constructed as to form a practical hame-tug with less leather than is used in the common hametug, and whereby either the front or rear part of the tug, if broken or worn, may be removed without throwing the other away, and if one section should be worn out it can be replaced without opening the whole tug.

- Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my new and improved harne-tug, showing the end of the trace held in the hame-tug buckle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevationof the hametug, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse sectional elevation taken on line m w of Fig. 2.

I construct my new hame-tug in two sections, A B. The section A is composed of the plate 0, of metal, and the leather straps D D, secured one upon each side of said plate by rivets a a. The rear end of the plate 0 is formed with the cheek-pieces d d and curved bridge (2, which forms a seat for the hinge-eye of the plate E, below described. The checkpieces d are perforated to receive the hinge screw or bolt F, and are formed also with the loop or billet-keeper G to hold the front end of the traces H.

The rear section, B, of the hame-tug is composed of the said metal plate E and the straps J J, of leather,secured one upon each side of the said ,plate by the rivets c c. The front end'of the said plate E is formed with the said hingeeyef, and the eye is formed at its ends with the stop-shoulders h 71 which strike against the edges of the curved bridge (1, and thus limit the hinge or folding motion of the tug.

The tug is provided at its rear end with the buckle L for holding the trace, and at the forward end with the eye M. for connecting the hame-tug to the hame. (Not shown.)

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The plate 0, having the perforated cheekpieces ('6, formed with a billet-keeper or loop, G, in combination with the plate E, hinged to the plate 0, substantially as described.

The hame-tug hereindescribed, providedwith the plate 0, formed with the cheek-pieces d d and curved bridge (1, in combination with the plate E, formed with the hinge-eye f and stop-shoulders h, substantially as described.
