  • Ready-made curtains or drapes are well known and conventionally consist of curtains or drapes which are completely ready for hanging or have been made up to the extent that they require only adaptation to the particular rod or rail system from which they are to be suspended. More particularly, ready-made curtains or drapes are already provided with pleating or gathering so that they have the required or desired length and width and are, as a rule, provided at their upper edges with hangers or fittings by means of which they can be suspended from ceiling or wall-mounted rails or rods with the hangers being slidable on the mounted rails or rods.

These hangers 12 are undercut at their lower end so as to permit them to be inserted into the rails 9 which have a box-section with a slit 15 being provided in their bottom sides to accommodate the portions 14 of the devices 11.
  • the two rails 9 are spaced apart by a distance corresponding to the distance between the two hangers 12 of the devices 11 which are joined together by a web 16.
  • pairs of rollers 18 are inserted into the bores 13 provided in the hangers l2 and are introduced into the box-sectioned profile of each of the rails 9.
  • the fixing and gathering devices 11 extend longitudinally of the rails 9, and it is in this direction in which they are inserted into the curtain rail mounted on the ceiling of a room.
  • portions of the rail 9 are partly interrupted at bends 9awhereby, after insertion of the. hangers 12 into the straight rail 9 the latter can bebent into a shape illustrated in FIG.'5 with the bent rail portions carrying the curtain or drape being subsequently i fastened on the lower side of the lid 2 as shown in FIG. 6.
  • the rails 9 are provided at their top portion with external flanges 9b which engage behind resilient hooks or lugs 2a provided on the lid 2.
  • a rail 20 of substantially S- shape is disposed on the lid 2 with one end of the rail 20 lying against the inside of the rim 2 whereas the other end lies adjacent an opening or slot 10 provided in the rim or lip portion 4.
  • ready-made drapes or curtains 5 having devices for fixing folds mounted at the top edge thereof such as, for example, illustrated, described, and claimed in British patent application'No. 26192/73 may be accommodated.
  • These devices, which at their top end are provided with runners or pairs of rollers, can be continuously pushed into the rail of this embodiment as long as adequate length of rail is available on the lid 2 without the diameter of the lid and the container 1 becoming excessively large.
  • FIG. 8 illustrates a further embodiment of the present invention wherein a rail 21 is mounted on the lower side of a lid 2 which is in the form of an equilateral hexagon with the rail 21 extending substantially circularly.
  • a rail 22 may be provided which extends helically, thereby permitting a good utilization of the cross section of the lid and, consequently, of the cross section of the container.
  • the rails of the present invention can also be employed when other types of hangers are mounted on the top edge of the ready-made curtains or drapes.
  • the rails of the present invention can accommodate conventional attachment of pairs of rollers or runners which are provided on supporting tapes sewn on the top edge of curtains or drapes.
  • the rails of the present invention are suitable for accommodating a large number of known hangers adapted to be attached by means of clips or the like to the top edge of the curtain or drapes.
  • box-section rail has been described hereinabove, it is also possible to use all the various types of rails normally employed for the numerous types of conventional hangers.
  • slit tubular sections may also be employed in which, as in the case of the box-section, the slit may be disposed at the bottom, side, or any other portion of the rail in order to accommodate the configuration ofa particular hanger.
  • the end adjacent the opening or openings 10 may be closed by means of'conventional clamping devices, such as are customarily used for corresponding curtain rails fitted to ceilings or walls, in order to prevent the curtain or drape 5 from slipping accidentally from the rail or rails before the lid carrying the curtain is fitted on the container 1 or after the lid has been removed from the container 1.
  • the handle 3 provided on the lid 2 does not project beyond the lid 2, but a recess 23 is provided below the handle in the lid 2 and on the inside at the same time laterally enclosing the rail 9 or 20.
  • rail or rails of the present invention may be made of any suitable material, such material may consist of a thermoplastic material and the rail or rails may be fastened to the lid 2 by adhesive bonding, welding, or clamping. Additionally, the lid 2 and container 1 may be made of an appropriate material, and such material may consist of adequately strong cardboard.
  • the curtain or drape 5 is suspended from a lid 2, which lids correspond basically in construction to the lid illustrated in FIG. 1, with the curtain or drape 5 being suspended from the fixing and gathering devices 11 mounted in the rails 9.
  • strings 24 are provided in two positions along the length of the curtain or drape with the same being folded over at these points whereby the bag may be relatively short.
  • the bag is tightly pressed against the edge of the lid 2 at the top by means of a rubber band 25 and inflated with compressed air whereby storage in the horizontal position is possible without the curtain or drape being creased.
  • An arrangement for packing, transporting and storing ready-made curtains or drapes provided with hanger means at the top edge thereof comprising: container means provided with an opening for receiving the curtains. or drapes, cover means for selectively covering said opening, and means provided on said cover means for receiving the hangers to suspend the curtain or drapesin said container means including at least one rail means:provided on the underside of said cover means, said cover means being provided with a rim portion projecting beyond the end of said at least one rail means, said rim portion being provided with an aperture means for enabling the hangers to be disposed on said at least one rail means.

  • An arrangement for packing, transporting and storing ready-made curtains or drapes provided with hanger means at the top edge thereof comprising: container means provided with an opening for receiving the curtains or drapes, cover means for selectively covering said opening, means provided on said cover means for receiving the hangers to suspend the curtain or drapes in said container means including at least one rail means provided on the underside of said cover means, said at least one rail means consists 10 of a plurality of rail portions. said portions being bent relative to each other, said container means being a bag, and means for fluid-tightly connecting said cover means with said bag.
  • each of said plurality of rail portions is provided with flange portions, said affixing means including resilient lug means for receiving the flange portions of a respective rail means.
