Abstract

A device for holding a calendar, a pen or holding an attachment means for a pad, a writing plate or the like is described. It comprises a generally U-shaped bracket holder, the waist portion of which permits attachment of the bracket onto a surface and the legs of which are provided with mounting holes, a roll mounted to the bracket and provided with a sheet having a calendar grouping provided thereon and a mounting shaft rotateably projecting into the mounting holes of the legs, and a chain, string or the like connected to the bracket, one end of the chain, string or the like being attached to a pen and the second end thereof being fixed to an attachment means such as for a writing pad, a supporting plate or the like, and wherein the mounting shaft of the roll has a through running hole into which the pen may be pushed and retained therein when not used.

It comprises a generally U-shaped bracket holder, the waist portion of which permits attachment of the bracket onto a surface and the legs of which are provided with mounting holes, a roll mounted to the bracket and provided with a sheet having a calendar grouping provided thereon and a mounting shaft rotateably projecting into the mounting holes of the legs, and a chain, string or the like connected to the bracket, one end of the chain, string or the like being attached to a pen and the second end thereof being fixed to an attachment means such as for a writing pad, a supporting plate or the like, and wherein the mounting shaft of the roll has a through running hole into which the pen may be pushed and retained therein when not used.

3 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure DEVICE FOR HOLDING A CALENDAR, A PEN AND FOR HOLDING AN ATTACHMENT MEANS FOR A PAD, A WRITING PLATE OR THE LIKE The present invention relates to a device for holding a calendar, a pen or holding an attachment means for a pad, a writing plate or the like.

Usually calendars are fixed to a wall or other surface by means of bracket holders, however, these are not adapted to hold pens, pads, writing plates and the like at the same time. For example, the bracket holder for the calendar may be fixed to a telephone and pens and pads and similar objects are usually put separately beside the telephone, and for example, the bracket for the calendar may be fixed to the dash board of a vehicle whereas pens, pads and the like are usually put in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Due to the free positioning of the pens and pads, after a while they will be borrowed for use in other places than the location initially intended, which means that they will be lacking when needed for making some important note.

The purpose of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks and provide a device which holds a calendar, a pen and an attachment means for a pad, a writing plate or the like and which, additionally, p'ermits a good display of the calendar, secure fastening of the pen when not in use and furthermore, the pen as well as the pad may be held and handled at a distance from the device.

This will be accomplished according to the invention by a device comprising a generally U-shaped bracket holder, the waist portion of which permits attachment of the bracket onto a surface and the legs of which are provided with mounting holes, a roll mounted to the bracket and provided with a sheet having a calendar grouping provided thereon and a mounting shaft rotateably projecting into the mounting holes of the legs, and a chain, string or the like connected to the bracket, one end of the chain, string or the like being attached to a pen and the second thereof being fixed to an at tachment means such as for a writing pad, a supporting plate or the like, wherein the mounting shaft of the roll has a through running hole having an opening such that the pen may be pushed into the hole and retained therein when not used.

The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein:

The device according to the invention is partly to hold the calendar so that it is located in an easily understandable manner and partly to hold the pen so that it may be handled without obstruction in use, which is also valid for the pad or the writing plate. In order to permit this the device according to an exemplifying embodiment comprises a U-shaped bracket holder 1, defining a waist portion 2 and two legs 3 and 4 extending therefrom. the bracket I is to be applied to a surface or substrate such as a telephone or a dash board of a vehicle. As a consequence, the waist portion 2 is provided with a longitudinal rib 5 and a layer ofa so-called self-adhesive binder is applied to the same. Optionally, the bracket holder 1 may include a clamp 6, which is also provided with a layer of a self-adhesive binder, and said clamp is applied to a substrate and has edge portions 7 to grip the edges of the rib 5 without thereby engaging the binder layer of the rib. The latter embodi ment means that the bracket 1 may be retained in relation to a substrate (such as a telephone) by means of the clamp 6 and in relation to another substrate (such as a dash board) by the aid of the binder layer of the rib 6. As an alternative, the bracket I may be applied to a substrate by means of bolts, magnets or other connecting means.

Each leg 3 and 4 is provided with a mounting hole 8 and 9 and end portions of a mounting shaft. 10 rotateably project into the same. Said mounting shaft 10 is inserted into a roll 11, the jacket surface of said roll is provided with a calendar grouping which divides the jacket surface into a plurality of fields 12, each suitably provided with the name of a month. By the division fields for advertising purposes may also be provided. As an alternative, a separate sheet divided into months may be used, which sheet is provided with a layer of a self-adhesive binder permitting the securing of the sheet to the jacket surface of the roll 11', which may be provided with an advertising print and the calendar sheet may be made from a transparent material so that the advertising print is visible through the same.

In order to indicate the field 12 with the actual month, the bracket holder 1 suitably has three

pointers

13, 14 and 15. Two pointers or

13, 14 of these comprise inwardly bent edge portions of each leg 3 and 4, while the third pointer comprises a slide 15, located to grip a flange 16 of the waist portion 2 so that the same may be displaced along the waist portion. This structure results in that the roll 11 may be turned until the field array having the field for the actual month will be located opposite to the

13, 14, and subsequently, the pointer 15 is placed right opposite to the actual field. The roll 11 permits rapid setting and fur thermore, makes the calendar easy to read, that is to say the fields for more than one month can be seen at the same time. To enable easy mounting of the roll 11 the bracket 1 is made from an. elastically yieldable material, such as a plastic or a sheet material, so that the legs 3, 4 may yield sideways when necessary.

Furthermore, the device according to the invention is intended to hold a pen 17 and an attachment means 18, preferably a spring clip, for a pad, a writing plate, a note paper or the like. To accomplish this object at least one of the legs 3, 4 is provided with a keyhole slot 19 which has a substantially circular portion 19a. A chain 20 runs through the keyhole seat 19, the beads 20a of which are of suitable size to permit passage through the substantially circular portion 19a of the keyhole slot but not through the slotted portion 19b. On the contrary, thearms 20b of the chain between the links pass down into the slotted portion 19b, which means that the chain 20 may be passed through the keyhole slot 19 and hooked to the edge of the hole. One end of the chain 20 is connected to the pen 17 and the other end thereof is connected to the spring clip 18, which results in that the same may be operated at a suitable distance to the device.

In order to keep the pen 17 fixed when it is not being used, the mounting shaft 10 of the roll 1 1 has an axially through running hole 21 which is of such a size that the pen may be pushed into the hole. Furthermore, the hole 21 may be of such a size that the pen 17 is retained therein when pushed into the hole. 7

Although the present invention has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment thereof, it will be apparent that numerous changes and omissions may be made to the construction of the invention and its precise details without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed. So, for example, both legs 3, 4 may be provided with holes 19, which means that the chain may be applied for both right and left-handed persons. Additionally, the lines dividing the roll 11 or the sheet applied thereto may be so positioned that one or more fields are obtained for advertising print.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination, a writing instrument with an attached clip and a calendar with holder comprising:

a. a U-shaped bracket having a waist portion and two leg portions;

b. an elongated roll rotatably mounted between said leg portions and having calendar indicia thereon;

c. means for slidably mounting a pointer on said waist portion of said bracket;

d. a central, axial opening through said roll aligned with cooperating openings through said leg portions;

e. a writing instrument, said opening being adapted to receive said writing instrument;

f. a chain comprising an alternate array of beads and connecting arms;

g. a keyhole slot extending through at least one of said leg portions and being located external to the periphery of said associated roll, said keyhole slot having a substantially circular portion larger in diameter than the diameters of said beads and a slotted portion smaller in width than the diameters of said beads, said keyhole slot cooperating with said chain to selectively and removably fasten said chain to said one of said leg portions at substantially any point along the length of said chain;

h. said writing instrument being attached to one end of said chain;

i. a clip attached to the other end of said chain;

j. whereby the position of the pointer selectively depicts calander indicia on said roll, the clip is adapted to support a pad or the like, and the writing implement can be housed within said axial opening.

2. The combination of claim 1, wherein each leg portion includes an inwardly bent pointed portion which is located external to the periphery of said associated roll.

3. The combination of claim 1: g

a. including a clamp coupled to said bracketfsaid clamp having an adhesive backing thereon;

b. wherein said waist portion includes an adhesive backing thereon;

c. said adhesive backing of said waist portion being disposed in spaced relation to said clamp.

Claims

1. In combination, a writing instrument with an attached clip and a calendar with holder comprising: a. a U-shaped bracket having a waist portion and two leg portions; b. an elongated roll rotatably mounted between said leg portions and having calendar indicia thereon; c. means for slidably mounting a pointer on said waist portion of said bracket; d. a central, axial opening through said roll aligned with cooperating openings through said leg portions; e. a writing instrument, said opening being adapted to receive said writing instrument; f. a chain comprising an alternate array of beads and connecting arms; g. a keyhole slot extending through at least one of said leg portions and being located external to the periphery of said associated roll, said keyhole slot having a substantially circular portion larger in diameter than the diameters of said beads and a slotted portion smaller in width than the diameters of said beads, said keyhole slot cooperating with said chain to selectively and removably fasten said chain to said one of said leg portions at substantially any point along the length of said chain; h. said writing instrument being attached to one end of said chain; i. a clip attached to the other end of said chain; j. whereby the position of the pointer selectively depicts calander indicia on said roll, the clip is adapted to support a pad or the like, and the writing implement can be housed within said axial opening.

3. The combination of claim 1: a. including a clamp coupled to said bracket, said clamp having an adhesive backing thereon; b. wherein said waist portion includes an adhesive backing thereon; c. said adhesive backing of said waist portion being disposed in spaced relation to said clamp.
