Abstract

Workpiece finishing apparatus including an abrasive charged trough in which workpieces are subjected to reciprocating movement along a desired path fixed by the shape of a traverse guide. The finishing trough is moveable vertically to position each workpiece in the abrasive. Mechanism is provided to automatically sequentially control the feeding, chucking, finishing and removal of workpieces.

Claims (5)

1. An automatic recipro-finishing machine, comprising: traverse guides operatively mounted on said machine; a trough adapted to be filled with abrasive media; means operatively coupled to said traverse guides for finishing a workpiece by reciprocating said workpiece in said trough while filled with abrasive media, said means reciprocatively moving said workpiece along a path defined by the shape of said traverse guides; means operatively mounted for conveying workpieces to and from said finishing means; means operatively mounted for chucking said workpiece over said finishing means; means operatively coupled to said finishing means for stopping said workpiece at a given position after the finishing operation has been completed; and means operatively coupled to said finishing means, said conveying means, said chucking means, and said stopping means for controlling the operations thereof in a predetermined sequence.
2. An automatic recipro-finishing machine according to claim 1 wherein said reciprocating movement follows a straight path.
3. An automatic recipro-finishing machine according to claim 1 wherein said reciprocating movement follows a cuRved path.
4. The automatic recipro-finishing machine of claim 1 further comprising means operatively positioned for moving said workpiece at a side of and parallel to said trough, said means being operatively coupled to said controlling means.
5. An automatic recipro-finishing machine according to claim 4 wherein said means for moving and means for conveying workpieces are comprised of two sets of rails on the horizontal plane and perpendicular to each other, wheel means mounted on said rails, roller means rotatable along the side of said rails, and cutout portions provided at a turning point of said rails for facilitating movement of said roller means.
