SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,174, dated September 4, 1888.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM So'r'roN, of the city of St. Louis in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Gar-Seats, of which the following is a fnll,clear,and exact descrip tion, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a back view of one of my seats, part in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section at 2 3, Fig. 1, showing the seatin position for use. Fig. 3 is a transverse section at- 2 3,Fig. 1, showing the seat in the reversed position to :5 that shown in Fig. 2.

This invention relates to sliding reversible carseats; and the invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, A A

are the supporting metallic ribs, which, in

conjunction with a middle metallic strap, B,

support the combined seat and back.

0 is the seat proper,which is preferably constructed of strips of wood or rattan; but it may be made of any other suitable material. The said seat may be seen red to the ribs and strap by rivets or by any other suitable means.

D represents the uprights orends, D the feet, and E the transverse connecting-bars of the frame that carries the seat. The said vertical and horizontal parts of the frame are secured together in metallic union boxing F, in the square sockets of which they engage.

G represents bracket-clips, that are bolted or otherwise fastened to the horizontal bars of the frame. The twin horizontal hooks G of the clips engage in the grooved ways H on the sides of guidebrackets II, that are securely bolted or otherwise attached to the metallic ribs A.

It will be seen that by reason of the horizontal hooks G of the clips being in engagement with the guidebrackets on eachside in the (No model.)

grooved ways II the combined seat and back cannot be disengaged from the uprights by reason of any lateral strain which might be brought to bear upon either the uprights or the seat and back.

G- represents pins, that rise vertically from the middle of the bracket-clips and enter perforations G in the braeket-guidcways when the combined back and seat have reached either of the positions at which it is desired to bolt or lock it. A slot,G, is also made through the rib and penetrates the under surface of the combined seat and back to give place to the bracket-clip when the seat is locked.

The upper and lower parts of the combined seats and backs are counterparts of each other, so that as they are reversed they exactly adapt themselves to the position previously held by the other part.

The operation of my reversible sliding back and seat is as follows: The seat is slightly raised to the extent the clip-hooks will allow, so as to force the locking-pins from the apertures in which they engage, and is then slid into its reversed position, the clip-hooks fol- 7o lowing in the grooves of the gnideways, and the locking-pins then enter other perforations provided to fasten them in their new position.

I claim as my invention In combination with a reversible seat and 7 back having guide-brackets 11, provided with grooved ways H on each side and having vertical perforations, the supporting-frame having bracket-clips G, fixed thereto, twin hooks G of the clipsadapted to engage in the grooves on each side of the brackets, and pins G ris ing vertically from the bracket-clips from between t-he twin hooks and adapted to enter a single perforation in each of the braekets,substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
