SPRINKLING 0R SPRAYING PIPE. I No. 388,930 Patented. Sept. 4, 1888.

UNITED STATES PATENT @rrren.
ALBERT F. THAYEE, OF MAPLE HILL, KANSAS.
SPRINKLING OR SPRAYING PIPE.
EPECIFICATION forming part: of LettersPatent No. 388,930, dated September 4, 1888.
To ail? whom it may concern.-
Re i is known that I, ALBERT F. Tl-IAYER, of Maple Hill, in the county of XVabaunsee, in the State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in sprinkling or Spraying Pipes, otwhichthe following isa specification.
This invention consists of a pipe or tube provided with a longitudinal indentation or groove, the opposite sides of which are supplied with opposite series of perforations, through which water or other liquid substance is forced and by this means converted into spray. It is useful in sprinkling flowers, gardens, lawns, washing windows, urinals, 850., and for various purposes where saturation by means of sprinkling or spraying is desired or the supply of water or other liquid in the form of spray is advantageous.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure l is a view in perspective of a pipe or tube embodying my invent-ion, such as would be applicable to the end of a garden-hose, for example. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of a pipe which is rectangular in section. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of a round pipe with an in dontation or groove of curved shape.
In Figs. 1 and 2, A represents a long pipe adapted at A. to be screwed to ahose, B, or other means of connection with the source of supply of water or other liquid. The outer end,A, is closed. cisalongitudinal V-shaped groove or indentation in whose opposite sides are made perforations a, each of which is ex actly opposite a perforation on the opposite side ofthe groove. As the water is forced into the pipe, it rushes out through the perforations a, and the jets from each pair meet and are converted into line spray projecting a con siderable distance from the pipe, the length of opposite jets to impinge against and mingle with each other in order to form the desired spray.
I am aware that atomizcrs employ meanssuch as small nozzles placed at proper angles with each other-for converting liquids into fine spray. I do not claim, therefore, anything which is covered by such devices.
My device is a long tube having opposite series of perforations in a longitudinal indenta tion or groove, through which the liquid is forced and a large spray-cloud produced. I propose to use any desired liquid and to apply the invention to any stationary or movable device where the result produced will be of service.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described sprinkling or spraying device, consisting, essentially, ot'a pipe or tube provided with an indentation or groove whose opposite sides are each provided with a series of perforations, each perforation inone series being opposite a corresponding perforation in the other series, whereby the jets of water issuing from each pair of perforations impinge against and mingle with each other, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ALBERT F. THAYER.
