All the parts of the inking apparatus except the form-rollers 25 26 27 28 and the pinions 95 96 97 are mounted in a movable carriage, so that said parts may be hodily removed from: over the form-rollers, as shown in dotted lines in Fig: 6.. This frame-work consists of opposite side frames, 101 102, and suitable connecting-braces, in which side frames the various rotating parts are suitably journaled, as arethe pinions 66 67.

The roller 13 is vibrated in one direction by alien-crank, 85, connecting-rod 86, and lever 37, which latter is vibrated by a push-rod, 88,
that is operated by a cam, 31, on the shaft 84,
and is; vibrated in the opposite direction by the springseated rod 35, attached to the rockarm 36. The rollers 18 19 21 22 are caused to vibrate endwise by means of rock-arms 52 53 5455, motion being derived from a rock-shaft, 56, through cross-heads whose arms 57 58 have pins that enter grooved collars on the shaft of the rollers 21 22. The rock-shaft 56 is operated through an arm, 33, which projects from its lower end and engages with a grooved cam, 34, on the shaft 84. This arrangement of inking apparatus is such that it operates to distribute the ink very finely and that each pair of form-rollers receive from the large central cylinder the same quantity of ink, and as they give oif the ink to the form it is constantly renewed and equalized, the result being. that every part of the form is equally inked.

assess in place and removed and convenient access to the impression-cylinder afi'orded for the purpose of making ready its printing-surface, and this carriage is removed in the following manner: A shaft, 60, is journaled in the frame-work and runs across the lower part of the machine. It is supplied with a hand-lever, 61, at one end and at appropriate points within and near each side frame with earns 62, which cams operate the T- shaped push-bars 63, the upper ends of which stand just underneath projections of the feet 42 of the movablccarriage, bythe operation of which push-bars the carriage, when loosened from its swinging clamps 46 and clampscrews 44, may be raised a short distance. In being thus raised the gearing that drives the various rollers separates, the.
grooved collars on the shafts of the rollers 21 22 lift off the pins in the arms 57 58 of the cross-head, and the levers of the fountain and taking rollers leave their push-rods. When the movable carriage is thus raised, a
roller-frame, 40, is laid on each topv rail, 41,
of the machine, one at each side, which rolleri'ranies are-then run in under the raised carri e, as in Fig. 6, one such roller-frame then an erlying each of the feet 42 of the carriage. The top rail, 41, and the bottom of the feet 42 are each grooved to receive the guidingtlanges' on the rollers of the said roller-frame,
"so that when the carriage is lowered onto the roller-frame by a contrary movement-of the hand-lever 61 it will be supported in a condition to be easily rolled backand forth. When rolled back, as shown in dotted lines of Fig. 6, it will leave the form-rollers uncovered and give free access to the impression-cylinder, and will also permit the form-rollers to be removed, if desired.
To bring the ink'distributing apparatus into a proper position over the form-rollers to commence the printing operation, it is rolled forward into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 6. It is then slightly raised to free the roller-frames 40, the latter are rolled rearward from. beneath the feet 42, and the said ink-distributing apparatus is lowered by a proper movement of the hand-lever 61 until its said feet .42 rest on the side frames of themachine, as in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 5, when .its;gearing,will, be re-engaged, the grooved collarson the rollers 21 22 will drop on the pins in the levers 57 58, and the levers 81 87 91 will again rest upon their push-rods 83 88 92. In this position the ink-distributing apparatus rests solidly in place, and is rigidly secured to brackets 111 and 112, projecting from the main frame of the machine, by means of the projecting portions of its side frames, 101 102, which carry clamp-screws'44, the shanks of which enter sockets in brackets 111 112. (See Fig. 6.) When lowered in place, these clanipscrews 44 'secure the side frames to the brackets 111 112, the feet 42 being secured at the front and rear on op ICO posite sides of the machine to the side frame by means of swinging clamps 46, in the manner shown in Figs. 5 and 2.
