3 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures 1 HIDE SPLITTING AND GUTTING DEVICE DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a hide splitting and gutting device.
Objects of the invention are to provide .1 hide splitting and gutting device of simple structure. which is inexpensive in manufacture. used with facility and convenience. readily. conveniently and facilely cleaned and maintained. and splits and guts a hide efficiently, effectively and reliably with facility and rapidity.
In order that the invention may be readily carried into effect. it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing. wherein:
FIG. 1 is an exploded view of an embodiment of the hide splitting and gutting device of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a view of the embodiment of FIG. 1 assem bled with the hide splitting blade installed; and
FIG. 3 is a view of the embodiment of FIG. I assembled with both the hide splitting blade and the skinning blade installed.
In the FIGS.. the same components are identified by the same reference numerals.
The hide splitting and gutting device of the invention comprises a rod-like shaft 1 having an arcuate head 2 of substantially semicircular configuration with a free end 3 substantially diametrically opposite another end 4 on the shaft. A slot 5 (FIG. 1) is formed through the arcuate head 2 from substantially one end 3 to the other 4 in a plane substantially perpendicular to the central axis 6 of the arcuate head.
The arcuate head 2 has a bore 7 and 8, respectively. formed through each end 3 and 4. respectively, transverse to and extending across the slot 5.
A handle 9 is removably affixed to the shaft 1 around the shaft end free from the arcuate head 2. This is accomplished by a wing nut 10 threadedly coupled to the externally threaded end 11 (FIG. I) of the shaft 1.
A skinning blade 12 (FIGS. 1 and 3) is removably affixed to the arcuate head 2 of the shaft 1 and extends through the slot 5 therethrough substantially coaxially with and away from the shaft.
A hide splitting blade 13 (FIGS. 1 and 2) is removably affixed to the arcuate head 2 of the shaft 1 and extends substantially diametrically between the ends 3 and 4 of the arcuate head.
A blade locking plate 14 locks the blade 12 and/or the blade 13 in position in the arcuate head 2. The
The blade locking plate 14 fits in the slot 5 in a manner whereby when the wing nut 10 is tightened on the threaded end 11 of the shaft 1 it locks the blade 12 or 13 in place. More particularly, the wing nut 10 urges the end of the handle 9 against one end of the blade locking plate 14, which then pivots about one of the peg-like members 15 and pushes one end of the blade 12 or 13 against the peg-like member in the bore 7.
An extra hide splitting blade 16 is carried in a slot formed in the handle 9.
While the invention has been described by means of a specific example and in a specific embodiment, I do not wish to be limited thereto. for obvious modifications will occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A hide splitting and gutting device, comprising a rod-like shaft having an arcuate head of substantially semicircular configuration with a free end substantially diametrically opposite another end on the shaft and a slot formed therethrough from substantially one end to the other in a plane substan' tially perpendicular to the central axis of the arcuate head;
a handle removably affixed to the shaft around the shaft and free from the arcuate head;
a skinning blade removably affixed to the arcuate head of the shaft and extending through the slot therethrough substantially coaxially with and away from the shaft; and
a hide splitting blade removably affixed to the arcuate head of the shaft and extending substantially diametrically between the ends of the arcuate head.
2. A hide splitting and gutting device as claimed in claim 1, further comprising blade locking means for locking the blades in position in the arcuate head.
slot via the bores.
Claims (3)
1. A hide splitting and gutting device, comprising a rod-like shaft having an arcuate head of substantially semicircular configuration with a free end substantially diametrically opposite another end on the shaft and a slot formed therethrough from substantially one end to the other in a plane substantially perpendicular to the central axis of the arcuate head; a handle removably affixed to the shaft around the shaft and free from the arcuate head; a skinning blade removably affixed to the arcuate head of the shaft and extending through the slot therethrough substantially coaxially with and away from the shaft; and a hide splitting blade removably affixed to the arcuate head of the shaft and extending substantially diametrically between the ends of the arcuate head.
2. A hide splitting and gutting device as claimed in claim 1, further comprising blade locking means for locking the blades in position in the arcuate head.
3. A hide splitting and gutting device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the arcuate head has a bore formed through each end transverse to and extending across the slot and further comprising peg-like members for fastening the blades and the blade locking means in the slot via the bores.
