Abstract

A combined booklet and score card, the booklet having a cover and a score grid portion of the score card usually occupying the top part of the cover with the pages of the booklet occupying the remaining or lower part of the inside of said cover, so that the latter is a supportive backing for the grid portion when the grid portion is being written on by the user. The pages have aligned edges mutually reinforcing each other to constitute a firm linear tearing edge for the score grid which is scored or perforated along a positionally corresponding line so that the score grid is easily torn out of the booklet after being used by the golfer.

Representation of various features of the numbered holes in golf courses, including the hazards and topography, is also common and well known practice. The use of reasonably stiff cards to facilitate the players writing thereon is also old. Furthermore, it is obviously prior art to provide almost any kind of booklet as such with the pages collated and secured together as by stapling or otherwise. There exists a need, however, for a score card which remains easily and completely acessible while the different holes are successively graphically displayed for reference, guidance and interest, adequately supported to provide a good writing surface for recording the scores, and in which the completed score grid can be conveniently torn from the remainder of the item.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention claimed herein satisfies the immediately above-mentioned need and comprises a score card device in which the card occupies the flyleaf position in a booklet. The booklet has a cover supporting the score grid portion of the score card and has a plurality of pages which incidentally depict the various holes of the golf courses but which, from a physically functional viewpoint, constitute together a mutually reinforcing firm tearing edge against which the abovementioned score grid portion can be torn from the remaining portion of the card after the player has used the score grid to record his score.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the combined booklet and score card opened and with the score grid portion partially separated from the remaining portion of the score card;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of FIG. 1, and illustrating {the gripping of the booklet card and cover for tearing off the score grid portion; and
FIG. 3 is a top plan view, with the score grid portion almost entirely removed.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT As illustrated, this item can be conceived as having three elements, namely, a cover 10, a score card 12 which includes a score grid portion 14, and booklet pages 16. The three elements are secured or bound together as by staples 18 with the score card held immediately inside the cover and occupying a flyleaf position in the item in the booklet sense.
The cover 10 is constructed of relatively firm material such as stiff paper and the upper portion at least of the cover constitutes a supportive backing for the score grid portion 14 enabling the user to write his score thereon without undue bending or puncturing of the score card.
It should be noted that the score card 12, and even the pages 16 of the booklet may be of stiff paper or the like and the pages 16 are collated with their upper edges 20 mutually reinforcing each other to form a firm tearing edge when the pages are held together by the users fingers as illustrated at 22 in FIG. 2. The actual tearing of the score grid portion 14 from the remaining portion of the score card is illustrated in the drawing. To facilitate the tearing the score card is weakened as at 24 by scoring or a line of spaced perforations or the equivalent.
Obviously the line of weakening at 24 corresponds positionally very closely to the upper edges 20 of the pages 16.
The score grid portion of course extends well beyond the upper edges of the pages 16 and the upper edge thereof may allign or collate with the upper edge 26 of the cover. The score grid will ordinarily be lined in any desired form as at 28 and the pages 16 will possibly have pictorial representation of the different holes in a given golf course, this printing as such being regarded as a matter of individual choice but the structure described above should be recognized as having a unique physical function in that the pages 16 may be turned progressively by the user to display any desired advertising and the above mentioned representations of the different golf course holes selectively while the score grid 14 remains completely and concomitantly visible.
I claim:
1. A combined booklet and scorecard comprising:
a single sheet score card having a score grid portion:
a book attached to said score card so that the score card is in flyleaf position, said book having printed pages selectively and concomitantly visible with the whole of said score grid portion;
said pages having aligned edges mutually reinforcing each other and in use defining a firm tearing edge against which said score grid portion is pressed while being torn from the remaining portion of said card;
said card being weakened along a line positionally coinciding closely with said tearing edge; and
said book having a cover disposed exteriorly of said book and card and being a supportive backing for said score grid to facilitate a users writing thereon.
2. Structure according to claim 1 wherein said pages are collated on and secured to one part of said cover and on the inside of said cover;
and said score grid portion extends above the said one part of the inside of said cover.
3. Structure according to claim 2 wherein only said book and a part of said score card are secured to said cover, said card being disposed between said book and said cover with said score grid extending well beyond said aligned edges of the pages of the book.

Claims (3)

1. A combined booklet and scorecard comprising: a single sheet score card having a score grid portion: a book attached to said score card so that the score card is in flyleaf position, said book having printed pages selectively and concomitantly visible with the whole of said score grid portion; said pages having aligned edges mutually reinforcing each other and in use defining a firm tearing edge against which said score grid portion is pressed while being torn from the remaining portion of said card; said card being weakened along a line positionally coinciding closely with said tearing edge; and said book having a cover disposed exteriorly of said book and card and being a supportive backing for said score grid to facilitate a user''s writing thereon.
2. Structure according to claim 1 wherein said pages are collated on and secured to one part of said cover and on the inside of said cover; and said score grid portion extends above the said one part of the inside of said cover.
3. Structure according to claim 2 wherein only said book and a part of said score card are secured to said cover, said card being disposed between said book and said cover with said score grid extending well beyond said aligned edges of the pages of the book.
