Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for separately extracting air from an open-end spinning turbine so as to produce a better controlled flow of air through the apparatus.
- FIGURE is a longitudinal, cross-sectional view of one preferred embodiment of a turbine operating in accordance with the present invention.
- Turbine 2 includes a shaft 13 formed to present a longitudinal yarn extraction bore 14.
- Shaft 13 is mounted in a suitable bearing which rotatably supports the turbine unit.
- roller 3 includes a hollow shaft 9 via which the roller unit is rotatably supported in suitable bearings.
- Shaft 9 is provided with openings 10 axially aligned with the annular inlet opening of an annular suction chamber 11 surrounding shaft 9. Chamber 11 is connected to a suitable suction blower assembly 15.
- Fibers are fed in through a channel 4 in housing 1 in the direction toward the break-up roller 3. Due to the streaming entrained air and the centrifugal force produced by the rotation of roller 3, the fibers travel from the surface of the conical jacket of the break-up roller 3 into the region enclosed by the turbine 2 and then to r the fiber collecting trough 12 formed by the turbine.
- the extraction bore has a widened diameter which serves to effect an increased radial flow of the air in the turbine between the turbinewall and the counterface 7 of the roller 3 and thus better separation between the stray fibers and the yarn.
- the extraction bore diameter should for example be four times the width of gap between turbine and counterface 7.
- the break-up roller 3 is provided at its interior with a bottom 7 which is connected with the conical jacket by fins 8, for example, so that an annular substantially continuous gap 6 is produced.
- This arrangement according to the present invention causes the air entering into the turbine to be sucked into the region enclosed by the break-up roller from the fiber input, and from the gap between the turbine and the break-up roller, as well as from the hollow turbine shaft. Stray fibers are thus completely kept away from the area where the yarn is being formed and extracted out of the turbine.
- the suction level, or air flow rate, produced by assembly 15 can be determined according to criteria known in the art to effectively extract the air reaching annular gap 6.
- the extraction of air according to the present invention can also be effected in a corresponding manner for turbines without a coaxial break-up roller, i.e., with a stationary countersurface.
- the stream of air is also sucked out toward the same side from which the fibers are introduced into the turbine.
- the air flow rate, produced by the assembly 15, depends on the specific design of open-end-spinningdevice. To give an idea, the rate is sufficient, if the vacuum, produced in the spinning turbine, is of the order of mm water-level. (mm Wassersaule), This value can roughly be regarded as independant of yarn spinning rate.
- sucking of air out ofthe turbine comprises: sucking air through an annular gap provided in the body and directing the air from theregion of such gap toward the axis of rotation of the turbine.
