The last threequarter inch length is bent into a three-eights inch diameter half circle (2) forming a hook-type clip. Part three is a length (3) of plastic vinyl tubing having a onequarter inch inside diameter by seven-sixteenths inch outside diameter. The length of plastic vinyl tubing is measured and cut 4 inches shorter than the horizontal length of the automobile door that is to be protected.

CLIP ON AUTO DOOR GUARD BRIEF SUMMARY There are three parts to this invention. Parts one and two are identical metal clips. Part three is a measured length of plastic vinyl tubing. The clips are inserted one at each end of the measured length of plastic vinyl tubing. The three parts now joined clip on horizontally across the pre-measured automobile door acting as a protective guard when parked in narrow head-in parking spaces. It protects the surface of the door against nicks and dents when bumped against by the door of the adjacent parked car.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF VIEWS FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the clip drawn three times larger than actual size.
FIG. 2 is a top view of the complete assembled device having one clip inserted into each end.
FIG. 3 is a side view showing the assembled device clipped on horizontally to the door of a car.
FIG. 4 is a close-up of a cross section of the plastic vinyl tubing with a clip inserted into one end of the plastic vinyl tubing along line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION There are three parts to this invention. Parts one and two are identical metal clips (FIGURE A). Each clip is constructed of half hard, .020 gauge, stainless steel measuring one-half inch wide by 3 inches long and bent every three-quarter inches in a 45 angle zig zag. The first three-quarter inch length has die stamped serrated (1) sides having three teeth per side. The last threequarter inch length is bent into a three-eights inch diameter half circle (2) forming a hook-type clip. Part three is a length (3) of plastic vinyl tubing having a onequarter inch inside diameter by seven-sixteenths inch outside diameter. The length of plastic vinyl tubing is measured and cut 4 inches shorter than the horizontal length of the automobile door that is to be protected. The serrated parts of clips are now inserted permanently, by hand, one in each end of the measured length of plastic vinyl tubing (VIEW I). The three parts now joined form a length of measured plastic vinyl tubing with a metal hook-type clip attached to each end (FIGURE B).
The device now is ready to be attached to the automobile door. The door must be opened first so that one end of the device may be clipped onto the front edge of the door. While the door is still open, the device is stretched and the other end clipped over the back edge of the door. The device now is held on by tension. The door may now be closed without interference from said device.
I claim:
1. A removable and reusable auto door guard formed from suitable plastic material such as vinyl which is stretchable and has tubular end portions provided with clips formed from suitable sheet metal such as stainless.
steel, each clip comprising a substantially flat end portion having a plurality of teeth along both longitudinal edges thereof dimensioned so as to be inserted pennanently by hand into a tubular end portion of said plastic material, said clips having a zig zag configuration providing an offset portion between two substantially flat portions, the free end of each clip being provided with a door engageable portion of hook-like configuration, the length of said door guard initially being less than that of an associated door so that the plastic material of the guard must be stretched to engage the associated clip portions with lateral edges of an auto door, tension of the plastic material thus holding the guard on the door so that the guard may be easily removed only when the door is opened.

Claims (1)

1. A removable and reusable auto door guard formed from suitable plastic material such as vinyl which is stretchable and has tubular end portions provided with clips formed from suitable sheet metal such as stainless steel, each clip comprising a substantially flat end portion having a plurality of teeth along both longitudinal edges thereof dimensioned so as to be inserted permanently by hand into a tubular end portion of said plastic material, said clips having a zig zag configuration providing an offset portion between two substantially flat portions, the free end of each clip being provided with a door engageaBle portion of hook-like configuration, the length of said door guard initially being less than that of an associated door so that the plastic material of the guard must be stretched to engage the associated clip portions with lateral edges of an auto door, tension of the plastic material thus holding the guard on the door so that the guard may be easily removed only when the door is opened.
