CARL VILHELM FRIEDERICH THODE, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
BOLT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,229, dated August 21, 1888.
Application filed March 30, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that. I, CARL WILHELM FRIED- ERICH THoDE,a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Hamburg, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Disengaging Doors by Pneumatic or Electric Action, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mechanism for disengaging doors by pneumatic or electric action; and the object of my improvements is to afford facilities for the proper disengagement of folding doors and to secure their automatic opening, in case of need, from a central station. l attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichm Figure l is a front view of the locked folding doors provided with my improvements; Fig. 2, a horizontal section of Fig. l; Fig. 3, a vertical section of the same; Fig. 4, an elevation of a part of that leaf of the folding doors provided with the locking device. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 illustrate details in enlarged scale.
Similar letters refer to similar parts through out the several views.
c and b are the two leaves of the door. The latter, b, carries the two door bars or bolts c and d, enchased in the doorframe and covered with metal strips c and cZ, provided with slits L and t', through which project the pins k and Z o f the door-bars, engaging with the weighted basquill-lever c, serving to protrude or retract the said bolts c and (l. The basquill-lever e, turning upon the pivot g, is provided with au extension, c', which is received into a staple or clamp, b, to arrest the second door-leaf, b, and a weight,f, which serves to release the latter leaf b and to retract the bolts c and dat a given moment.
The bar or bolt cis provided at its upper end with a spring-click, n, Figs. 3 and 7, engaging with a tooth or recess of a roller or locking bolt,t, arranged in the door-case. This locking-bolt t is journaled between stationary brackets, and is turned into the position shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings. A disengagingcatch, o, is provided for holding the roller in position, and the said disengaging-catch may Serial No.268.94`2. (No model.)
be operated from a central station in any desired manner-asor instance,by means of com pressed air blown through the tube w into the air-bag w, against which the tail of the said catch rests. As soon as the locking bolt or rollertis disengaged by the influence of pneu- Inatical or electrical action, it is forced to turn by the action of the weighted basquill-lever e and to release the click u. The basquill-lever e, when swinging downward, will then retract the bolts c and d and release also the leaf b from the latch a', and the folding doors are opened automatically by means of the two pivoted arms y, under the action of the springs z, as illustrated in Fig. l.
In order to lock the folding doors, they may be drawn back by means of the two rings x, when the basquill-lever c has to be lifted into the initial position, as illustrated. The two bolts c and l are thereby pushed into their corresponding staple in the door case, the latch c re-engages into the staple b', and the spring-click u into the recess of the lockingroller.
The locking-roller t is ehamfered, so as to admit the click a to slip off in ease of accident by a heavy stroke or pull on the lever e, the two leaves of the door thus opening again, as set forth.
I am aware that prior to my invention single door-leaves have been employed, operating in conjunction with disengaging apparatus acted upon by pneumatic or electric force supplied from a central station. I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly; but
That l do claim as my invention, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with the two leaves of a folding door, of the retraetible bolts for holding the leaves closed, the weighted lever e, for drawin(7i back said bolts, springs for automatically opening the door-leaves, a springclick secured to one of the said bolts, and the locking-roller operated from a central station, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the two leaves of a folding door, of the retractible bolts for holding the leaves closed, the weighted lever e, for drawing back said bolts, pivoted to one of the door-leaves and provided With `am eX- lIn testimony that'cl'aim the foregoing as my tension engaging with a catch on the other invention I have signed my name in presence 1o door-leaf,'springs for opening the door-leaves, of two witnesses.
a spring-click secured to the upper fastening CARL WILHELM FREDERICK THODE' bolt7 the locking-roller engaging With said spring-click, and a disengaging-eatch for re- Witnesses:
leasing the said roller and spring-click, snb- I ALEXANDER SPECHT,
Stantially as and for the purpose set forth. i G. MGUINSE.
