Application filed December 24. 1887. Serial No. 258,876. (No model.)
for use by barbers andhair-dressers for thepurpose of protecting the eyes of their customers while trimming the beards, it being well known that during such operation small pieces of hair frequently snap from the scissors and are liable to strike the eyes of the party having his beard trimmed. The eye'protector is intended to be laid loosely on the forehead and cheeks of the customer while it is in use, or it may be provided with a suitable fastening device, if so desired, particularly if the protector is to be used for invalids to shade or guard weak, diseased, or injured eyes.
The invention is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the eye-protector. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section on the line A B shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 represents a cross-section on the line C D, also shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
a is the protector, having on each side of its center a concave or cup-shaped part, a, adapted to rest against the forehead and upper part of the cheeks while being used.
a is a cut-away portion at the lower and middle junction of the cup-shaped or concave parts a a to permit the nose of the wearer to project at such place, so as to enable the outer edges of the protector to lie in close contact with the face of the person using it.
To the edges of the cut-away portion a is secured a nose-protector, I), made of cloth or suitable soft and flexible material, that will easily conform itself to the shape of the wear ers nose, and thus prevent the hair-clippings from reaching the eyes at this point. 4
The protector is preferably made of pasteboard or leather-board and molded to the desired form; but it may be made of thin metal, wood, wire-gauze, or other suitable material or materials without departing from the essence of my invention.
The concave portions aa are to be made deep enough to enable the party to open his eyelids and to close them at pleasure without coming in contact with the interior of the pronose is covered by the flexible cloth gore-piece b," as above described.
What I wish to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
