UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTOPHER WATSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED ARTIFICIAL FLOWER AND PERFUME-RECEPTACLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 387,466, dated August 7, 1888.
Application filed November 18, 1887. Serial No. 255,500. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER WATSON, of the city, county, and State of New York, hav e invented a new and Improved Combined Artificial Flower and Perfume-Receptacle,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention is an improvement in the class of artificial flowers provided with a concealed perfume-receptacle.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is aperspective view ofthe artificial flower, showing in dotted lines the location of the perfume-bottle; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a flower having an elongated stem.
I provide any suitable form of perfume-bot tle, as shown at A, having a screw-cap or stopper, B, which bottle forms the support or body for the flower-structure O, the petals a thereof being suitably arranged in relation to each other in a manner to appear as a flower. The petals are secured by paste, glue, or in any other suitable manner to the sides or neck, or both the sides and neck,of the bott-le,each petal being either separately and directly secured to the bottle, or certain of them secured to the bottle and the remainder thereof attached to the so-secured petals.
To the lower portion of the bottle A, and also the petals a attached to it, I apply a wrapping,b, of some flexible material, and then coat such wrapping with adhesive substance for the purpose of retaining a layer of colored fiber, d, or other suitable material, which will give the appearance of moss or the furry appearance noticeable at the stem portions of many flowers.
As shown in Fig. 2, the lower portion of the petalcovered perfume-bottle is wound and embraced by a portion of awire, 6, over which the fiber-covered wrapping b is placed, the said wire being extended below the bottom of the bottle and prepared in suitable and proper manner to secure the appearance of a stalk.
The flat base of the bottle A, having the wrapping I) and fiber d applied to it, as shown in Fig. 1, makes the article self-supporting when placed on a table or equivalent flat surface.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the combined artificial flower and perfume-receptacle hereinbefore described, the same consisting of the bottle A, having a stopper, B, the petals a, glued to the body of said bottle, the wrapping b, secured around the lower portion of the latter, and the moss-like fiber d, applied over such wrapping, as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the bottle A,of the wire stem e, which is wrapped around it, as shown, the petals a, and the wrapping b and moss-like fiber d,secured around both the wire and petals, as and for the purpose specified.
CHRISTOPHER WATSON.
