a] x W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLARD H. FULLER, OF PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE SGOVILL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NINV YORK, N. Y.
PHOTOGRAPHlC-PRINTlNG FRAME...
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 386,876, dated July 31, 1888.
Serial No. 266,873. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W'ILLARD H. FULLER, of Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State ofNew Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Photographic- Printing Frames, of which the following is a specification.
I will describe a photographicprinting frame embodying my improvement in detail,
IO and then pointout the novel features in claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan or top view of a printing-frame embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a longitud-inal section taken on the plane of the line S an m, Fig. 1, and showing certain parts in adiffereut position from that shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The frame is com posed of side pieces, A, and
end pieces, 13. These side and end pieces are secured together by dovetail joints or in any other suitable manner. The end pieces, B, are provided upon their inner sides with notches a, wh ereby the fi nger maybe inserted to 5 raise the parts C 1" of the back. The parts 0 G of the back are united by the piece of felt or other suitable material, I), which forms the facing for the back. The adjacent edges of the parts 0 (1" are beveled to ad mitof raising either 3 of said parts separately. The piece of ma terial, D, forms in effect a hinge upon which the parts (1 C may be swung. In order to maintain either of the parts 0 U in an elevated position, I employ retaining devices G. These retaining devices are, as here shown, in the form of hinges, one of the leaves 9 of which are secured to the part 0 by screws. The leaves 0 of said hinges are provided with longitudinal slots d. Extending loosely through thcseslots t are projections here shown as screwsf. These screws engage the part 0' of the back. The heads of these screws prevent the leaves 0 of the retaining devices from becoming disengaged from the screws. \Vhen either of the parts 0 C are raised, the leaves a of the retaining devices G move along upon the screws f, and the heads of the screws will retain the parts 0 C so raised in an elevated position.
J designates resilient pieces for maintaining the parts O C in a position to firmly hold. the plate to be printed from. These pieces may be swung upon pivots 71, arranged about midway in their lengths and extending into the parts 0 O. The ends of the pieces J, when the latter are in position to hold the parts 0 G, extend beneath securing-pieces I upon the portions A of the frame. As shown, these securingpicces Iare concave upon their under sides, or, in other words, are provided with cupshaped recesses. The end portions of the 5 pieces J extend into these cnpshapedrecesses, the side walls of which prevent accidental displacement of the pieces J by cont-acting with the ends of said pieces.
L designates an index shown as made of a 6 semicircular piece of metal secured to one of the portions 0 C and provided with raised figures Z. Pdesignates pointer adapted to be swung in the arc of a circle, upon a screw, j. Between and inward of the figure on the index are raised portions a. Between these raised portions are spaces opposite the figures. \Vhen the pointer is swung, it will pass between two of the raised portions a, and will be retained against accidental. displacementby such raised 7 portions. The pointer may be moved by hand and the object of the index is to indicate the number of printings made from a negative.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a photographic-printing frame, the combination, with a back composed of two portions hinged together, of a device for retaining said portions in an elevated position, consisting of a hinge having one lea-f secured to one of said 8 portions of the back, and a projection on the other portion with which the other leafof the hinge is connected with a sliding connection, substantially as specified.
\VILLARD H. FULLER.
