PHOTOGRAPHlC-PRINTlNG FRAME.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,154, dated April 30, 1889. Application filed October 25, 1888. Serial No. 289,140. (No model.)

T all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, VVILLARD H. FULLER, of Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a cert-ain new and useful Improvement in Photographic- Printing Frames, of which the following is a specification.

I will describe a printing-frame embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a back view of a printing-frame embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of one section of a tally or record forming part of the printing-frame. Fig. 4C is a view of the forward side of the outer part of said tally or record.

A designates the frame. It is rabbeted on the rear side, as at a, to receive the glass to be printed from, the paper to be printed, and a cover, B B'. The cover B B' is composed of two sections, the adjacent edges of which are chamfered oit', as shown at Z) b'. These adjacent edges are connected by hinges C, which are of the type ordinarily known as leaf-hinges. These hinges are shown as having their leaves secured to the front side of the cover-sections by Screws or otherwise. obviously the leaves of the hinges might be secured to the cham'fered edges of the coversections. The cover is faced on the front side with felt or analogous soft material.

One of the cover-sections-in the present instance the section B--has secured to it a stop, D, whereby either cover-section when open may be held in the position into which it is adjusted. This stop may be made of 40 metal, and consists of two sections hinged together, one being secured by screws or like devices to the cover-section B and the other being slotted and connected to the cover-section B' by means of a screw, d, passing through F its slot and inserted in said cover-section.

Each of the cover-sections is provided with a seeuring-spring, E. Such spring consists of a strip of metal bent rearwardly from the middle toward both ends and pivotally connected at the middle to the cover-section to which it belongs. 'The ends of each spring coact with eoncavo-convex catches secured to the sides of the frame. By bending the ends of the springs forward and then swinging the springs upon their pivots they may be disengaged from the catehes, so as to release the cover.

On the cover-section B', I have shown a tally or record, G, arranged. It consists of a cup-shaped piece of sheet metal of cylindric form having an internally-screw threaded hub, g, at the center and a fiange at the outer circumference. It is secured in place by tacks or other means passing through it and entering the cover. Its back or Circular portion is slitted at regular intervals in a circle and the portions intermediate of the slits are a turned up to form ratchet-teeth g. A disk,

A screw, g passing through a finger or index, g and through the disk g enters and en gages with the hub q The back of the disk g is provided with a resilient metal strip, (f, extended in the form of a circle and. adapted to engage with the ratchetteeth g'. The screw secures the parts in their proper relation and its head eXerts friction enough upon the hand or index to keep it sta- So tionary. The disk g having the figures marked upon it, may be rotated, and the strip g will, by engaging with the 1'atchet-teeth,secure it in any position into which it may be adjusted, although not with sutficient force to prevent its being adjusted again.

By this construction I produce a very simple tally or record.
