Be it known that we, GARRET VAN SOHAIOK RIOKARDS, VINCENT FONDA RIOKARDS, and HEZEKIAI-I GUYER, of Keokuk, in the county of Lee and State of Iowa, citizens of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in \Vire-Fence \Vebs, which is made and used substantially as set forth hereinafter, and as shown in the accompanying IO drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of the fence-web. Fig. 2 shows details of same in various modifications.

The object of this invention is to form a wire-fence web which maybe woven or made complete, ready for use, and may be rolled up for shipment, storage, and facility in putting up for fences, and which will be efficient and durable in use, and of good appearance.

To this end theinvention consists in a wirefence web composed of a number of strands, each formed of two or more wires twisted together, and of cross-pickets at suitable intervals,having indentations on their sides engaging with the wires of the strands, which inclose and hold the pickets between their successive twists. these twists running continuously between the pickets, so that the strands will hold and keep their positions upon them.

The invention also consists in the pickets formed with eross-indentations along their sides, and specially adapted to form such peculiar improved fenceweb, and in various details and features.

The fence'web, as illustrated in Fig. 1, is formed of any suitable number of strands, A B, with cross-pickets O. The strands may be varied in number and distance apart in different cases, as desired. These strands are formed 40 of two or more wires twisted together continuously from picket to picket. The pickets are held between these wires, which are twisted together on each side, so as to inclose and hold them tightly.

The strands are formed upon a machine especially made and arranged for the purpose, which forms them allat one time. The pickets are inserted between the wires of all the strands at one time as they are twisted, so as to be properly held by the strands. 5c

The pickets are formed, as illustrated m Fig.

2, with indentations D at short intervals In their sides crosswise, so that the wires of the strands will engage with them so as to beheld in fixed positions on the pickets and prevent the pickets moving in or being withdrawn from them, and so as to hold the strands together in relative positions. These indentations may be compressed or indented Into the single straight rod or wire on one or more sides. Thetops E of thepickets are bent over in any suitable ornamental curve, as desired, and are bent down and engaged with the wires of the top strand, A, in a like way at another place at the next picket, or otherwise. The end of this loop is bent or molded to form a hold, F, by which the wires engage and hold it securely. The wires or rods are round or of other term, and may be varied.

\Ve claim- 1. In a wire fence web, the combination of twisted strands of wires with a picket formed of a single wire or rod having cross-indentations in its sides, whereby it is made less in section attheindentations than intermediately 7 to engage with the inclosing wires of the strands.

A wire-fence web composed of a number of strands, each formed of two wires twisted together, holding cross-pickets having indentations in theirsldes engaging the wires of the strands which inclose and hold them between their twists, said pickets having their tops bent over and held by the upper strand at other places.
