3 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures WIRE FENCE CONNECTOR This invention relates generally to fencing construction, particularly such as is used on farms so to confine livestock.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a fencing of improved design in which the fencing wire can be quickly and easily secured to fence posts.
Another object is to provide a fencing construction in which a novel portable lever tool can without great effort and without taking up much time secure the wire fencing so that it is secured against stock pulling it down, and which will not injure the stock.
Another object is to provide a wire fence connector which can be operated by one man working alone, without need of a helpers time.
Other objects are to provide a wire fence connector which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use, and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily apparent upon a study of the following specification and the ac companying drawing, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a fence post used in erecting a fence with the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a view in direction 2-2 of FIG. 1, showing the invention in use.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged top view of the post with a fence wire secured thereto.
FIG. 4 is a top view of the connector tool in use.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the connector tool.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a wire fence connector according to the present invention, wherein there is a tool 11 utilized to compress a spring 12 of a hook unit 13 mountable on a fence post 14 to secure a fence wire, wire fencing or barbed wire 15 to the post.
The post is of metal channel, and is provided with two rows of openings 15 to which the hook units are attached.
The hook units are made of spring steel wire which at one end is bent up into a stiff U-shaped hook l7, and the other end is bent up into the coil spring 12 that fits around a straight central portion 18 of the wire between its opposite ends.
The tool 11 consists of pipe 19 which at one end 20 forms a handle while the other end 21 has a nut 22 welded thereto for threadingly engaging a rotatable it can be braced against a front side 28 of the fence post 14 after a hook unit 13 is placed into the channel depression 29 on the rear of the post, and the hook I7 is inserted into one of the post openings 16. The coil spring 12 is seated in depression 26 and the pipe handle is then pivoted so to compress the spring thus pushing the hook 17 through the opening 16 so to allow insertion of the wire 15 behind the hook, after which the tool is released, and the spring pulls the hook back into the opening so that the wire is held lightly against the front of the fence post.
I claim:
1. In a Wire Fence Connector tool, for forcing a spring-loaded hook through a hole of a fence post in order to permit locking a fence wire behind said hook. the combination ofa straight pipe, one end of said pipe serving as a handle, the other end of said pipe having a nut secured thereto, said nut engaging a screw having a screw head which on its end has a depression for seating one end ofa coil spring of saidspring-loaded hook, and a generally C-shaped arm being welded to a longitudinal side of said pipe, said C-shaped arm being comprised of a short leg the end of which is welded at right angle to an axis of said pipe, 21 straight central leg at right angle to said short leg, and a terminal long leg at right angle to said central leg so that said short and long legs are parallel to each other, and an axis of said central leg being at an acute angle respective to an axis of said pipe, whereby an axis of said terminal long leg crosses to one lateral side of said pipe axis.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said screw is adjustable on said nut so to adjust said tool respective to a length ofsaid hook coil spring on which it is intended to be used.
,3. The combination as set forth in claim 2, wherein said arm long leg is located substantially beyond said screw head, so that said hook spring coil and said post

Claims (3)

1. In a Wire Fence Connector tool, for forcing a spring-loaded hook through a hole of a fence post in order to permit locking a fence wire behind said hook, the combination of a straight pipe, one end of said pipe serving as a handle, the other end of said pipe having a nut secured thereto, said nut engaging a screw having a screw head which on its end has a depression for seating one end of a coil spring of said spring-loaded hook, and a generally C-shaped arm being welded to a longitudinal side of said pipe, said C-shaped arm being comprised of a short leg the end of which is welded at right angle to an axis of said pipe, a straight central leg at right angle to said short leg, and a terminal long leg at right angle to said central leg so that said short and long legs are parallel to each other, and an axis of said central leg being at an acute angle respective to an axis of said pipe, whereby an axis of said terminal long leg crosses to one lateral side of said pipe axis.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said screw is adjustable on said nut so to adjust said tool respective to a length of said hook coil spring on which it is intended to be used.
3. The combination as set forth in claim 2, wherein said arm long leg is located substantially beyond said screw head, so that said hook spring coil and said post are held therebetween.
