  • the present invention relates to a pressing means for use in glueing of construction panels or the like to a preferably vertical base, particularly to vertical posts in a building construction.
  • Panels such as fiber panels, chip board, plaster board and the like are widely used in the construction of buildings, whether housing, store premises or factories.
  • the panels used have greatly improved accuracy of size and surface finish, however, these advantageous properties are wasted in part since small undulations occur in the joints when the panels are nailed. It is, practically speaking, impossible to avoid this when nailing the panels unless the nails are positioned very close together.
  • These undulations are readily visible in a wall, particularly if it is painted with a relatively glossy paint. If the undulations are to be removed, much filling and sandpapering is necessary and this is expensive work which does not wear well.
  • the object of the present invention is therefore to provide a pressing means for use in glueing of construction panels and the like to, for example, a base of vertical posts so that glueing of the said panels may be undertaken in a simple and rapid manner.
  • a pressing means which is characterized by an elongate channel profile having an inflatable rubber tube arranged in the cavity of the channel and extending substantially along the entire length of the profile and in that, at the end of the profile, seats or blocks are arranged for securing the profile between two points.
  • the means according to the invention is, for example, disposed between floor and ceiling a short distance from the join between two panels on a vertical post.
  • the tube is thereafter filled to a suitable air pressure, for example, by means of compressed air. Very little pressure is necessary when it is distributed in this manner.
  • the inflatable tube can therefore, to advantage, be a conventional bicycle tube.
  • each foot or block is secured to a rod which is movably mounted in the longitudinal direction of the profile and a knee bend is arranged approximately at the centre of the profile between the ends of the two rods, the two free ends of which knee bend being secured to the free ends of the rods, and a threaded sleeve through which a spindle passes is arranged at the join thereof, said spindle at one end being mounted freely rotatable on the profile part and, at the other end, being provided with a control wheel or the like for adjustment of the rods and thereby also the feet.
  • the tube In order that the tube may be readily replaced, it is releasably secured at both ends to the profile.
  • the profile is curved with the opening on the convex side thereof.
  • the profile thus forms a curved bridge between floor and ceiling and has great strength in relation to the dimension of the profile.
  • FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment example of the means according to the invention viewed in perspective.
  • FIG. 2 is a detail at the end of the means, in partial section.
  • FIG. 3 shows in diagram the means in use when pressing the edges of two adjacent panels to a post.
  • the means according to the invention consists of an elongate profile l which, in the cavity 2 thereof, is provided with an inflatable rubber tube 3.
  • the rubber tube is closed at both ends and glued to a metal tab 4 which, by means of an aperture, is threaded onto a journal 5 at each end of th profile 1.
  • the rubber tube 3 can be pumped up through a valve 6.
  • Feet 7 are arranged at both ends of the profile 1 said feet being preferably provided with a rubber coating 8.
  • the feet 7 are adjustable with respect to the ends of the profile 1, being mounted to respective rods 9 which are slidably secured to the profile 1 by means of guides 10.
  • the two rods 9 may be displaced in longitudinal direction by means of a knee bend 11 which, by its free ends 12 is secured to the ends of the rod 9 and which, at its branching point support a threaded sleeve 13.
  • a threaded spindle 14 is passed through the sleeve 13 said spindle 14 at its free end being provided with a control wheel 15 and, at the other end rotates freely in a block 16 secured to the profile 1.
  • FIG. 3 it is shown in section how the profile 1 is disposed spaced from the edges 17 and 18 of the panel on two panels which are to be secured to a post 19.
  • the tube 3 is blown up and pressed against the panel edges 17 and 18, and a secure retention of the edges to the post 19 during glueing is obtained.
