UNITED STATES PATENT @EETCEO ZACHARY T. HALL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
M Ue..
SPECIFICATION forming pari: of Letters Patent No. 385.179,'dated June 26, 1888.
Application filed December 31, 1887. Serial No. 259,476.
sylvania, have invented a new and useful In1- prove'ment in Mugs or other Vessels, which improvemcntis fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
One of the objections to an embossed or chased metallic vessel is that the inner face of the same is irregular, jagged, or broken.
My invention has for its object the remedy of said defects; and it consists ofa vessel formed of an outer wall which is embossed or chased and an inner wall which is plain and smooth, the two walls being united at the top and bot tom by beads or flanges, which closethe joints between the same the vessel presenting the appearance of a more expensive article at vastly-reduced expense.
Figure t represents a side elevation ofa metallic mug embodying` my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a mug formed of tin plate or other suitable metal, the same having its sides constructed of walls a b. The outer wall, a, is ornamented by embossing, chasing, striking up, or other means, and the inner wall, b, is plain. Each wall is formed ofa single piece of metal, the inner wall being of the greatest depth. Said inner wall is fitted within the outer wall, the ends of the two walls being properly soldered, forming tight joints thereat. The bottom c is then located and its peripheral iange or (Model.)
rim d turned up against theouter wall andunited thereto, connecting the base of the two walls. The projecting top ofthe inner wall is bent over the upper edge of the outer Wall, forming a head, d', which unites the two Walls 'at the top and closes or covers the joint thereat. The handle e is secured to the outer wall by soldering or other suitable means. By this construction I produce a mug which may be highly ornamentcd without the objectionable feature of its inner face being irregular, jagged, or broken, for while the back of the outer wall has a face in such condition it `is concealed by the inner wall, and thus the interior of the mug is smooth and uniform, the whole presenting the appearance of a solid mug embossed on the outer side and smooth and polished on the inner side. The two walls also strengthen the vessel without materially adding to the expense thereof.
lt is evident that the invention is applicable to bowls, coffee, tea, and other pots, pitchers, and utensils generally ot' the kind.
Having thusdeseribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A metallic mug consisting of outer and innerwalls, the outer wall being embossed or chased and the inner wall plain, the inner wall havinga bead at the top inclosing the top ofthe outer wall, and a bottom with circumferential flange inelosing thebase of both walls, substantially as described.
