N. PETERS. PMlo-Lllho UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ALEXANDER LADD, OF OOLFAX, WASHINGTON TERRITORY.
WA G O N S E AT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,534, dated June 12, 1888.
Application filed April "'1, less. Serial No. 269,980. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM ALEXANDER LADD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colfax, in the county of Whitman and Territory of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Wagon-Seats; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings. and to'the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to bearingplates forthe under side of wagon-seats; and it consists of a plate having a central concavity and a longitudinal slot.
The object of my invention beingto adjust and removably secure Wagon-seats to the bearing'portion of springs, I attain these objects by means of the arrangement and construction of my device, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference being had to the drawings accompanying this application and forming part of the same, Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention applied to the under side ofa wagonseat, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Similar lettersrefer to like parts throughout the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a plate of metal, formed of any suitable size, preferably of the size and shape shown in the drawings, the outer ends of said plate being perforated at a, to receive screw-bolts, by which it is held to the under face of a wagon-seat, the center of said plate being formed with a long concavity, b, that is formed to fit over the outer face of the center of a spring of the size usually used to support the seat on lumberwagons, though my invention is not restricted to seats, as it may be used under wagon-bodies or other places.
' Through the center of concavity b is formed a slot, 0, to receive the spring-bolts d, by which the seat E is held to the spring. This form of plate makes an accurate fit to the outer central bearing-surface of the spring F,holds' the seat in place, and is readily detached.
Having described my invention, 'what- I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A wagonseat support consisting of a plate having end perforations and a central concavity provided with a slot, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM ALEXANDER LADD.
