Abstract

The invention relates to a device for positioning the shuttle of a fabric weaving loom or the projectile with pincer hooks utilized in a loom with an external weft thread supply. The invention comprises (i) a pivoting plate provided with a sliding probe finger which, when the plate is pivoting, cooperates with the shuttle; and (ii) a roller integral with the batten of the loom, which roller engages the plate to make it pivot. The novel features of the present invention include the plate comprising a non-linear cam surface and the roller being in permanent contact with the cam surface.

DEVICE FOR THE POSITIONING OF THE SHUTTLE OF A LOOM FOR WEAVING FABRIC The invention relates to a device for positioning the shuttle of a loom for weaving fabric or the projectile provided with end pincer hooks found in a loom with an external weft thread supply.
Devices are provided in looms for weaving fabric to ensure that the shuttle or similar is positioned correctly on its arrival in one of the lateral boxes of the loom, so as to ensure that the shuttle is projected correctly into the shed with the aid of a batten, and also that a long piece of weft thread is not pulled outside the shed.
These devices of the prior art typically comprise a roller, secured at the end of a rigid arm integral with the batten which, while the weft is beaten up, strikes a pivoting plate provided with a probe finger mounted slidably. This probe then comes into contact with the end of the shuttle, in order to push the box back if the latter is not in the correct position.
In addition, when the shuttle is constituted by a projectile provided with end pincer hooks, the probe, on completion of its movement, comes into contact with one of the pincer hooks to open it or release the end of the thread which has just been slid into the shed.
However, these known devices have the disadvantage which is that, for every movement, the roller strikes the cam surface of the pivot plate which results in vibration and rebounds which are harmful to good functioning and it also causes repeated shocks which rapidly result in the wear and deterioration of .the mechanism.
Likewise, these known devices are delicate to regulate and the extent of the pivoting movements of the plate cannot be regulated with accuracy.
The object of the present invention is primarily to overcome this disadvantage and, to this end, relates to a device for correcting the positioning of a shuttle of a loom for weaving fabric, comprising a pivoting plate provided with a sliding probe finger, cooperating, during the pivoting movement of the plate, with the shuttle, and a roller integral with the batten of the loom for weaving fabric, engaging the plate to make it pivot, the
device being characterized in that the plate comprises a cam surface and the roller is in permanent contact with said cam surface.
According to a characteristic feature of the invention, the roller is connected to the batten by a telescopic assembly provided with resilient means.
The invention is illustrated, by way of nonlimitative example, on the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a device according to the invention, fitted to a weft-needle loom for weaving fabric,
FIG. 2 is an elevational view of the correcting device according to the invention,
FIG. 3 is a section along AA as shown in FIG. 2.
The device according to the invention is therefore designed to be fitted in a shuttle loom or a weft-needle loom, in which the shuttle is replaced by a projectile, provided with pincer hooks for gripping the end of the weft thread.
Such a weft-needle loom is represented, in particular in FIG. 1, in which the projectile l is provided with end pincer hooks 2, this projectile coming to lodge in the lateral box 3, from which it is ejected when a new weft thread appears.
This drawing also shows the fabric 4 in the process of being made. and winding onto the cylinder 5 as well as the warp threads 6.
On the fixed part 7 of the loom for weaving fabric, is fixed a device accordingto the invention, which consists of a support member 8, receiving a plate 10. Plate 10 is pivotable about a shaft 9, thereby forming a pivoting lever. On this plate 10 slides a probe finger ll of which the end 11, is designed to bear against the end of the projectile l to correct its position in the box 3 and by pressure, open the pincer hook 2. I
On this part 7, is also fixed a contactor 12, which is designed to cooperate with the rear end of the probe 11, when the front end ll abuts against the longitudinal side of the projectile l and no correction of the position is therefore possible.
The contactor then stops the operation of the loom for weaving fabric.
The plate 10, pivoting at 9, comprises a non-linear cam surface 13 of which at least a portion 13 is delimited by a part 14 provided with elongated openings I4 and the position of which on the plate 10 is adjustable by means of a screw 15, which enables the part 14 to be displaced with respect to its securing lugs 16 mounted on the support 8.
This arrangement therefore allows the position of the cam surface to be regulated accurately, so that it can accurately control the positioning, and, if necessary, the opening of the pincer hooks in the case of a weftneedle loom.
Cooperating permanently with the cam surface is a roller 17, fixed on a slide piece 18 which moves in the groove 19 of the support plate 8. This roller is connected to a telescopic assembly 21 by means of a toggle joint 20, connected also to the batten 3 of the loom for weaving fabric. I
This telescopic assembly consists of an outer sleeve 22, connected to the roller 17 by means of the joint 20, inside which slides a piston rod 23, which is constantly pushed back by a spring 24 placed around the guide rod 25.
The linkage between the piston rod 22 and the batten 3 is effected by means of a toggle assembly 26. In view of this construction, it is seen that the spring 24 there- .fore consistantly tends to elongate the telescopic assembly 21, so that the roller 17 is permanently in contact with the cam surface 13, whatever the position of the pivoting plate 8 may be. In addition, the toggle linkage contributes toward the elimination of vibrations, and other manifestations harmful to the good functioning of the loom.
This arrangement therefore enables the occurence of repeated shocks to be avoided which otherwise cause wear and deterioration, and which would be bound to occur if the roller strikes the plate 10.
In addition, the cam surface 13, cooperating with the roller 17, enables the positioning of the plate to be obtained, which is accurate at any moment, while it is pivoting, in order to ensure an accurate positioning of the shuttle and the opening of the pincer hooks at a precise moment in the case of a projectile.
This plate 10 is constantly pulled by a spring 27, fixed also at 28 to the fixed part 7 in a manner such as to maintain constant contact between the roller 17 and the cam 13.
Likewise, as is known, a spring 29 is placed around the rod of the probe 11, between an abutment 30 fixed onto this rod and a support area 31 of the plate.
This arrangement allows the rod of the probe 11 to draw back resiliently, for example, when the end 11 comes into contact with the side of the shuttle l or of the projectile, that is, when the rear end 11 has to actuate the contactor 12 to stop the loom.
A screw-type abutment 32 which is adjustable is also provided on the support plate 8 in order to limit the pivoting movement of the plate in its position when it is not acting upon the probe 11.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the examples of its embodiment herein above described and illustrated and on the basis of which other forms and other methods of embodiment can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. In a loom for weaving fabric, a device for correcting the positioning of a projectile thereof having pincer hooks for gripping the end of the weft thread, comprisa. a plate pivotably secured to a support member of said loom, said plate having a cam surface, the position of said cam surface being controllable;
b. a sliding finger probe slidably mounted to said plate, said probe being in cooperative engagement 3. The device according to claim 2 wherein said telescopic assembly and said roller are secured to a slide piece which moves in a slideway providing in said support member.
4. The device according to claim 1 wherein the cam surface of said plate is non-linear.
5. The device according to claim 1 wherein said telescopic assembly is provided at at least one of its end with a toggle joint.
6. in a loom for weaving fabric, a device for correcting the positioning of a projectile thereof having pincer hooks for gripping the end of the weft thread, comprismg:
a. a plate pivotably secured to a support member of said loom, said plate having a non-linear cam surface, the position of said cam surface being controllable;
b. a sliding finger probe slidably mounted to said plate, said probe being in cooperative engagement with said projectile; and
c. a telescopic assembly with resilient means having first and second ends, said first end thereof being coupled to the batten of said loom by a first toggle joint and said second end thereof being coupled to a roller by a second toggle joint, said roller being in permanent, engaging contact with said plate, said telescopic assembly and said roller being secured to a slide piece which moves in a slideway provided in said support member,
whereby the movement of said batten is transmitted to said roller through said telescopic assembly, said roller causing said plate to pivot and said plate thereby causing said finger probe to slide so as to correct the positioning of said projectile and to open said pincer hooks at the moment when the end of said thread. has been slid into the shed of said loom.

Claims (6)

1. In a loom for weaving fabric, a device for correcting the positioning of a projectile thereof having pincer hooks for gripping the end of the weft thread, comprising: a. a plate pivotably secured to a support member of said loom, said plate having a cam surface, the position of said cam surface being controllable; b. a sliding finger probe slidably mounted to said plate, said probe being in cooperative engagement with said projectile; and c. a roller integral with the batten of said loom, said roller being in permanent, engaging contact with said cam surface of said plate so as to cause said plate to pivot, whereby said projectile is correctly positioned and said pincer hooks are opened at the moment when the end of said thread has been slid into the shed of said loom.
2. The device according to claim 1 wherein said roller is connected to said batten by a telescopic assembly, said assembly being provided with resilient means.
3. The device according to claim 2 wherein said telescopic assembly and said roller are secured to a slide piece which moves in a slideway providing in said support member.
4. The device according to claim 1 wherein the cam surface of said plate is non-linear.
5. The device according to claim 1 wherein said telescopic assembly is provided at at least one of its end with a toggle joint.
6. In a loom for weaving fabric, a device for correcting the positioning of a projectile thereof having pincer hooks for gripping the end of the weft thread, comprising: a. a plate pivotably secured to a support member of said loom, said plate having a non-linear cam surface, the position of said cam surface being controllable; b. a sliding finger probe slidably mounted to said plate, said probe being in cooperative engagement with said projectile; and c. a telescopic assembly with resilient means having first and second ends, said first end thereof being coupled to the batten of said loom by a first toggle joint and said second end thereof being coupled to a roller by a second toggle joint, said roller being in permanent, engaging contact with said plate, said telescopic assembly and said roller being secured to a slide piece which moves in a slideway provided in said support member, whereby the movement of said batten is transmitted to said roller through said telescopic assembly, said roller causing said plate to pivot and said plate thereby causing said finger probe to slide so as to correct the positioning of said projectile and to open said pincer hooks at the moment when the end of said thread has been slid into the shed of said loom.
