STOP-WATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 383,059, dated May' 15, 1888.
Serial No. 246,114. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, EDMoND KUHN, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop-Watches, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to that class of watches in which a lever is brought to bear upon a wheel or arbor to stop the movement of the hands; and it has for its object to provide improved means for operating said lever.
The invention consists in the combination, with a lever carried by a watch-movement and adapted to bear upon a wheel or arbor in said movement, of a wheel or disk carried by the watch-case, adapted to engage one end of said lever to operate same, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.

To place the movement in a case or to remove it therefrom, it is not necessary to first remove-the wheel b, as is the case with a push-pin; but the movementB may be readily slipped in the ease, the wheel b passing be- 6o tween the front and back plates of the movement.

To stop the watch, the wheel b is turned to move the notch @,and thereby the lever f, into the position shown 7o in dotted lines. This causes the arm g of said lever to bear upon the arbor h, or upon ahub on said arbor, which immediately stops the movement. To start the wheels, the wheel b is turned so as to move the arm g away from 75 contact with the arbor 7L. The parts will then assume the position shown in full lines. The movement of wheel B is easily effected and is very positive in its action, insuring a certain stoppage of the hands. It is evident that if 8o the wheel b were pivoted in the movement so as to engage the lever j' the same purpose would be accomplished; also, the wheel I) could have a projection to engage the recessed'end ofthe lever f, as in Fig. 3,without 85 departing from thespirit of my invention.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a watch, the combination, with the stop lever carried by a movementV and 9o adapted to bear upon a wheel or arbor in said movement, of the wheel b, adapted to engage said lever to operate same by turning said wheel, substantially as described.
2. The lever f, carried by the movement B 95 and adapted to engage a Wheel or arbor in said movement, in combination with the wheel b, pivoted in the case A of the watch and adapted to engage said lever to operate same, substantially as herein shown and described. roo
